So, in your humble opinions, should I buy brass with the standard large primer pockets or the "Palma" brass (Lapua) with the small pockets?

Rifle - Kimber 84M LPT in .308
Purpose - local 100yd benchrest (factory class), medium range precision (300 - 500 yards) and possibly some F-Class matches

What are the benifits of the large vs small primers as they relate to how I will be using the rifle?

Thanks for your time!

Re: .308 brass, large or small primers???

The large primers have a larger flash and will ignite the powder collumn quicker.

The small rifle primers have a slightly smaller, cooler flash and will cause a not so violent ignition of the powder collumn.

Unless you are indeed going to use this round in competition where the groups are measured to .001" the small primer would be slightly more accurate.

As a benchrest shooter I can assure you that if you shoot a standard 308 Win round in a match the people on the benches on either side of you will throw rocks at you. There's a lot of difference between a 308 Win round and a 6PPC. Everyone near you will start to flinch every time it goes bang.

Good luck.

I have already threatened to shoot my 30-378 w/muzzle brake. I need the advantage! Anyway, our 100 yard benchrest match is growing to where we are needing 2 strings and will probably be split into BR class and factory class shooting at separate times.

Re: .308 brass, large or small primers???

I ordered the Palma brass about 3 months ago and am still waiting. There are not a lot of reports out there. The Palma team seemed to like it during the pilot testing. German Salazar was "meh" about them. Very few have actually loaded them up, so true informed opinions will be sparse.

A lot of people believe that small primers lead to greater accuracy. The old Remington UBBR cases used a small primer and they had a great reputation and many fans, including David Tubb, but they also had very thin case walls allowing for more capacity. The Lapua brass is Lapua, so the walls are on the thick side. The comparison is not apples-to-apples.

Hope this helps. I am still waiting on mine to come in.
