.308 HTG M40A1 build complete : )

Just got her finished and she turned out pretty nice. It's my best effort to make a Hunter/Tactical build. Got to the range with it Friday and she is showing some good promise.

Heres the specs.

-Chambered in .308 Match

-Rem 700 trued and bolt sleeved

-Holland recoil lug pinned

-McMillan HTG M40A1 with three studs, alluminum pillars, adj LOP in GAP camo

-Badger M5 DBM with 1 mag

-Kreiger barrel 1-11 twist #7 contour finished at 24"

-Cerakoted millitary black

-Randy Cain's bolt handle modification

-Rifle basix l-1 set at 1.5 lbs

-bedded with Devcon

Good day at the range though wind was 10MPH and switchy. Used bi-pod off of bench @ 100 yards

First five shot group

Called flyer on left but still not bad even including it.

Three rounds left

very nice looking.....

don't know if you're looking for opinions or not......but, for a hunting/tactical rig I would like to see the barrel length chopped back towards 20 inches or so......

It's a very time consuming process but after it's all together it's worth it. I agree KER2222, originally I was going to cut it 22" but with this one going to be for sale I figured I would leave it at 24" and shorten it if requested. Alot of guys still shy away from shorter barrels and I didn't want to loose a potential custimer that way. I do agree with though.

Those are pretty darn good groups with no scope or sights.....

Groups are typically measure C-T-C .....center to center of the two most distant bullet holes.

SO your top pic shows a groups of (prolly) less than 0.50 MOA.

1 MOA = rougly 1" at 100 yards.

Opinion - barel length looks right to me. LoP of buttstock looks too long to me.

Yea it's hard to keep a good sight picture that way : )

I figured with the groups just show outside edge to outside edge for picture purpases. She shot really well, that was the 2nd through 6th shot ever fired through the gun with no load work. Just loaded 45.6 varget under the 155 A-max .017 off the lands.

It's going to hard to part with - I'm already thinking of how I can justify keeping it : )

The match reamer that PTG made worked nice - Your probably going through withdrawel as long as you have been without a rifle : ) Hope that action gets here soon for you.

But this one has to go : ) She was built to compete, just hope it goes to someone who is going to run her and not make it a safe queen. Next project rifle will be a mountain rifle. Caliber opinions always welcome. Leaning twards the 7-08 or 7-08 ACK. Time will tell, ordering parts after Christmas.
