It's been a while since I've posted on here ... work. But here's the question.

I've scrimped, saved, eaten Mac n cheese and top ramen to upgrade my gear. Now I have a new RPR 6.5CM and an Athlon Ares 4x27 new bags and most all of my reloading equipment.

Soooo what should I do with my R700 AAC-SD .308? Is it worth while to keep a 3/4 moa basically stock 308? I'm kinda tired of selling guns and it shoots fair, but I can't see rechambering to a 6mm round to have two barrel burners.

I'm thinking of rebarreling with a Proof Research C.F. but keeping it 308. Would I just be throwing away cash? I do shoot it often to keep the round count down on my 6.5CM and the heavier recoil seems to help me when I shoot the CM.

Too many choices I better go to the range! Thanks for the input.

I get another 6.5 CM barrel so I didn't have to load for two different cartridges, and so I'd get used to the wind drift and come-ups of my LR bullet load. Burn those barrels. Get more barrels. Maybe F/TR will keep shooting 308 and 223, but I think 6 and 6.5 are going to be the desirable calibers. I know 7 gets slightly better wind drift, pushed to the max, and 6 is not really enough energy for some hunting applications, but 6.5 shoots easily, minimal recoil, especially if you load lighter bullets for shorter ranges or practice, and can be used for most big game. If you need more than a 6.5, drag out your 30 cal. What about fitting a West Texas Ordnance Switch-Lug setup, and have all the barrel options your bolt face will allow.

My bad for bringing F-class to the OP's question, which had nothing to do with F-class. The Switch-Lug is the thing I really wanted to mention to the OP, since a barrel change is the time to decide whether getting set up for switch-barrel shooting would be a good option; or at least setting the stage for later having the option to very quickly change barrels.

I guess I could have been a little more specific with my question.

Is it worthwhile to continue shooting my .308 after making the jump to 6.5? Also is rebarreling with out rechambering a waste of money? My barrel is not even close to burnt out but I would like to tighten up my groups.

I haven't given a switch barrel set up any thought but I'll look into it, Thanks

I kept my .308 and added a 6.5 to the mix. Grouping was great on both out to a certain distance then the 6.5 became my favorite. Barrel life was about 2200-2300 on the 6.5 before it was unreliable for
local Comp shoots. Rebarreled to 6 and necked down the 6.5 and I’ll do it again. I’ll never give up the .308 because it hangs with the shooting groups I’m part of and will last forever....almost.

.308 makes me work on my foundation and not rely on a flat shooting caliber. So I switch between the two for that reason.

I'm needing a new barrel for my 308, and will keep it in 308. It's a fun all around rifle, barrel life is awesome, and I have too much invested to get rid of that caliber. If I were you, I'd keep it 308. And when the barrel needs replaced, then change if you want to.
