My buddy just finished his AR10 and it is chambered in .308 Obermeyer. According to his smith, this cartridge is virutally the same as a .308Win. Obviously the name of it indicates there are some diffrences, otherwise it would be a .308Win. I searched the web and all I could come up with is that it is a tighter bore, same case. Is this correct? What kind of pressure diffrences can you be looking at with something like that.

I know once he gets optics for it the next is what kind of ammo. Is run of the mill .308 factory match ammo gonna work? Between the two of us I am the reloader, and we will be doing a load work up for it. Can I use the standard starting points with the load development? The lack of info on this is really throwing me off. Since he has dealt with the smith and not me, most of the info is in one ear and out the other.

Re: .308 Obermeyer

My guess is that a .308 Obermeyer reamer was used to chamber the barrel. Subtle differences in throat, neck and etc. make this chamber different. Do a google search for .308 Obermeyer reamer and I'll bet you'll find a trove of info.
