Im new to the site so Im sure this topic has been talked about already. I have both a 308 and 243. Im getting into some long range shooting (600-800 yards) and was wondering what your thoughts are on between the two for accuracy (pop can sized target). I do reload.

Re: 308 or 243?

Either will work fine. 308 youd be shooting a 175 probably 243 your gonna be using somthing in the 105-107 class. You'll have longer barrel life with the 308, however it will blow around more and mroe recoil. 243 will shoot flatter and be pushed less in the wind, less recoil, but barrel life will be much shorter. I have both, that I use for NRA LR and MR matches they both are accurate cartridges. Pick one and practice.

What is your 243? Factory 1-10" twist? If so you will be limited to around 95 grains. If you have a 1-7.5 you can shoot the heavies and that makes the 243 hard to beat.
