I'm still a bit new to this site, so I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I won a Rem 783 in 308 with a 16.5" semi heavy barrel at a gun bash. I decided to save it for my 6 year old daughter with the hope that I can get her shooting with me at some point in the next few years. But I'm going to need to work up some reduced recoil loads that have decent accuracy (it wouldn't be fun for her if she couldn't hit with it). I know Hogdon has reduced recoil data, but has anyone here worked up reduced recoil loads in a short barrel bolt gun with good results?

125 grain ballistic tip pushed by 41 to 42 grains of xbr 8208. Very mild. The faster 8208 will perform well in that shorter barrel with the light bullet, and still fill the case decently.

That would be plenty, thanks. I'm not worried about hunting yet, she still thinks that Disney is how the woods behave in real life. For now, I just want to get her shooting and learning proper firearm safety.

It does have a threaded barrel and I've been thinking of that route. But my daughter is a little more noise-shy, so I'd like to try keeping the recoil down via the loads first and see how that goes. Of course, I'll be holding the gun for her at first anyways.
