Just trying to get a general idea here. Does anyone have a table or data for 175gr SMK loads? Preferably factory loads. Found quite a bit of data out there for the FGMM 168 SMK from a 20" barrel, but nothing really for the 175.

Thanks in advance.

Forget all of the "free" stuff on the internet. It will not be very helpful and when you go out to shoot past 300 yards, your data will not correlate. However, if you use this Field Density Altitude Compensator (FDAC) 308 175gr METERS it will.

This data card system I used for the 168 grain but it was much better for the 175 grain. I also now use it for my 155 grain Lapua Scenars. It is within .1 mil-radian accurate. You can also find the Field Density Altitude Compensator (or "FDAC") in yards.

Good luck and let me know if you went with this system and whether you need any further help.

hkguns,

I don't know where you got that chart, but I can tell you it takes a lot more than 30 moa to reach 1k with a 175 SMK @ 2550. In my experience it's about 36 moa and 34.5 moa up at 4k DA.

It came directly off Zdziarski's ballistic program. I'll have to see if I have something setup incorrectly.

Edit: I may have found the issue. If you notice the data above uses the G7 model which is appropriate for that bullet. If I change it to G1 the 1000 yard numbers vary a lot more than one would expect.

There may be a G7 drag model bug in the latest version of his software.

Here OP, this should be accurate for the 16.5" barrel I used in the software.

I used G1 drag model and a factory load. You can ignore the reload data in the upper portion, it is just a leftover.

HKguns,

That looks a lot more like it. I may have gotten my 36 moa due the high scope over bore center. I calculated using JBM and more standard measurements and 2550 and came up with 42 moa as well. I also shoot here at 2200 or 2500. Usually on warmer days.

Here was my data with a Rem SPS TAC 20" barrel using 175 gr SMKs. Not Factory loads but the data may help. It's in mils.

Winchester Brass
Federal 210M Primers
Varget @ 44.2 gr
OAL: 2.810

HKguns, Why did you go with the G1 drag model? I do realize that Sierra lists only the G1 BC's on their website (as does Federal on their shamefully awful website), but the design of the SMK is a much more similar profile to the G7 bullet, and should be more accurately represented by using the the G7 drag model calculations. You might get more accurate long range calculations using the .243 G7 BC (Litz observed) that Brian Litz has published. The observed G7 BC's are also less variable than the G1 across a range of likely muzzle velocities, which may help minimize variances in your actual MV and the MV of the OP.

Because the G7 drag model data I posted above was way wrong. There appears to be a bug in the G7 data in the ballistic software.

Thanks for all the info guys. I still have a lot to learn and plan on using this as a baseline to compare to, once I can finally make it out to the long range and get some actual data from my own setup.

I just ran one round of FGMM the other day.

Rem 5R 24" barrel 11.25 twist.
FGMM 175 SMK
Temp 68F ALSTG 30.15
Pro Chrono set at 8 feet

Velocity = 2594 FPS.

Just guessing, but you'll probably wind up with about 2500 fps out of a 20" barrel.
