hi all
I would love to hear your opinions on what i should try and related benifits or negs
Ive got a 24" 1-11 barrel, would like a load for 1000yards, was thinking going with about 190gn heads or trying some solids from gsc custom- which i think are nearer the 170gn -180gn
Would like to try something new to me ie not 155 or 168 etc
Not seen much posted here about the solids for the .308 any one had good results ?
The reason for leaning towards the solids are that i got some from lehigh (not308) and was totally impressed with the quality,
There is just somthing about the cnc heads, boys and toys i know shiney shiney
Anyway thanks for imput
Cheers

Yeah, Lehigh does make one hell of a good bullet! Fired many out of the 50's and they are very accurate!

However, like you said they do not produce them for 308. I believe that Barnes is the only solid brass bullet on the market and I have not shot any! There is I am sure someone on the board that will give you feed back. I have not reloaded with any Barnes products but have heard good things regarding the solids that they sell.

Good Luck!

Terry

the barnes triple shock bullet is awesome but you must seat it off lands 50 to 70 thousands to make it shoot it likes the jump

cheers
I know the barnes, used it in 458, over here the barnes are incredibly expensive
The tipped ones are close to $2 a head
What about GSC custom bullets, any experience with those

i think comming here to hunt ,you would be very disapointed, unless we go to scotland and shoot on the hill,
You guys have so much more land than us , i loook at some of tthe pictures posted where your sshooting and your 1500m ranges look bigger than some of our counties

Re: 308-- solid cnc or traditional vld

I have limited experience with solids. Depending on how they are made, solids might not shoot well in a traditional barrel, especially if they are much lighter than the standard weight for their size and bearing surface. That's very close to all that I know about .308 solids. If you have a tight bore and seat to the lands, or soft-seat, you should maybe try VLD's first. I'm not a fan of 190's for 1000. Try 175 and 185 VLD's. Chrono at 100 for high MV and low SD. Select a few 1000 yard loads based on that, and go from there.
