308 win in a full length mauser 98?

So I have a short chambered 24" heavy barrel in 308 win threaded for a m98 action. I was going to ream it out to 30-06 AI since that chambering will clean up completely. I recently saw that you can get a dbm bottom metal for the m98 that takes AI pattern magazines. Does anyone have experience with this bottom metal?

Since I already have 308 win AI mags this seems like a no brainier.

I don't have the bottom metal, but do have a FN Mauser in .308, and it functions quite well.

I know they are out there I just haven't had any experience with them. I have built several m98's on my workbench and they perform very well. One of the advantages I can see with a 308 win in a long action would be the ability to magazine feed longer than standard length bullets. A 24" 1:10 twist barrel spitting 190 gr smk's @ roughly 2600 fps would be no slouch.
