30mm dovetail rings

I'm thinking about getting some so I can put my Super Sniper on my .22. I'm thinking about just getting a set of 30mm dovetail rings, since it's a 22, it doesnt NEED a fancy scope base and such. Would I be ok going with a cheap pair of rings, since the 22 has such a massive amount of recoil?

I looked at the options out there and went with a DIP rail and a cheap set of Weaver 30mm Tactical 4-Hole Skeleton rings from Midway, but I got a 20moa rail, with the SS you won't need that, it's got tons of elevation if you want to get out to 200 yds.

I'm sure that inexpensive dovetail rings will work fine

I went through the same dilema yesterday and decided to not be cheap and bought a DIP rail mount to go on my CZ 452 Varmint .17hmr.

One thing that led me to that decision was the lack of decent quality and correct height 30mm 3/8" dovetail rings.

Since I have a few spare sets of 30mm rings laying around it was cheaper for me to pick up a DIP base as well.

It also makes more sense because the scope on my CZ 452 (a SWFA SS 3-9) will be used as a backup for my .308 and I can just pop it off the CZ's rail and onto the rail of my .308 and rezero.

That's the exact plan I went with. Unscrew the rings and move the scope over to new rifle, re-zero and go. What's cool is the SS's track pretty well (mine does at least) so a set of good rings could make re-zeroing very quick and painless. Just my thoughts

1. you have a decent scope going on, compliment it with decent rings

2. no rifle NEEDS a fancy scope base and such, but they DO make the experience better and offers more versatility.

3. cheap pair of rings tend to slide around either because the rings suck and don't grip the dovetail correctly, or the dovetail sucks and don't allow the rings (good or cheap) to grip as well as they should.

you didn't mention what rifle it is, if it's a newer marlin with dovetail grooves and is drilled and tapped, get the DIP base. if your rifle is not drilled and tapped, i'd get it drilled and tapped for the DIP base with at least "decent rings" holding the optic, and you have the option of several mounting positions for proper eye relief / clearances.

lastly if you just want to keep the dovetail grooves and not get it drilled and tapped, at least get millet angle locks http://www.millettsights.com/rings-bases/angle-loc-steel-rings/ when all else slips, these things hang on.
