how comprobable would a surefire 338 can be on a 308/300wm? i know it would work in theory, but has anyone done this/seen it in action?

Re: 338 can on 308/300wm

I have had the same question with regards to the AAC Titan...

I have an interest in the AAC Titan and I have heard that this Can and .308 is amazingly quite, maybe even better than a dedicated .30 cal can.

There are a few people on Silencer Talk waiting on their Titans and will post videos of them shooting a .308 through their Titans.

I would think that the Surefire & AAC cans would produce simular results?

Should be interesting!

Re: 338 can on 308/300wm

I run a Surefire 338 can on my .308 and it works great. I bought it so that I could run it with anything up to a .338. My team mates have used it down to 6.5 caliber and it still works.

Off topic, welcome to the Hide. My dad lives down in West End and he used to live in Pinehurst.

Re: 338 can on 308/300wm

I use my SRT 338 can on my 308 DPMS and Remington 308 as well as a SSK made 300 whisper T/C Encore. It works perfectly on them all.And when shooting true subsonic loads out of that whisper, quiets it down to that of a beer can being stomped flat.

What video you want? I might be hitting the range tomorrow and can take a short one for you if you want.

Re: 338 can on 308/300wm

the sf338 on a 308. don't feel like you have to. but if you do-sweet. i know that a video can't make it sound what its really like, but i still like watching them

Re: 338 can on 308/300wm

Got stuck on OT today at work so no range day but I will get some video in the next few days hopefully.

Re: 338 can on 308/300wm

I also have a .30 SRT Shadow XL can and shooting a .308 through that and the 338 Surefire can it sounds the same to my ears. I don't have any special instruments to measure it down to tenths of a decibal though.

Re: 338 can on 308/300wm

Made it to the range today so have a couple of videos and pics. Took a video from infront and to the side while shooting. Tough to get the real sound from the video as with the supersonic bullet crack it makes it sound louder but here they are.

Shooting 400 yard steel so you can hear the slight clang in the back ground

Shooting a 5 dot drill at 100 yards

And a couple of pics of the can with the TAB SAS1 off on my 20" .308 to give you an idea of length.

Re: 338 can on 308/300wm

Not sure as I have never used it on my 6.5 or heard it on Tony's. I always wear hearing protection anyways.

Ledyard Sportsman in Ledyard, CT has 400 yards. It's a private club though.

Re: 338 can on 308/300wm

Nice rig Rob.

Crazy mixed up rules, over here in NZ (bottom of the world) suppressors are easy to get, kids can buy them. But try buying an AR15 or high capacity magazine (even for 10/22's) and it's a mountain of paperwork. Getting a silencer fitted end of the month on my 308.

Its a shame you can't just slip the internals out for larger/small calibers, while retaining the serial number (I'm assuming they are all serial numbered) on the external sheath.
