Men, i have a .338 edge with a 30 barrel. I am looking for way to carry it without beating myself to death. (hunting elk and deer mountains) Looking at a sling or pack? I put the sling on, really dont think that is the way to go. I like the idea of the pack that it can drop in the back pocket. What do you guys use for something like this. thanks............

I like Crooked Horn packs. Have both the Master Guide and High Country Extreme.
The have a fold down pouch that secures the butt of the rifle and straps to carry it in a vertical orientation. The Master Guide would be too short for your long rifle. Extreme would be better.

I have an Eberlestock X3 that works fine with my 300WM that is roughly 48" long. You'll just have to figure out which way is best to carry - muzzle up or down - to get the weight right. The thing about an Eberlestock is that it allows you to carry the rifle very close to your core minimizing the felt weight in the pack. Watch the videos on how to fit your pack and you won't look back. I used it for about 20 miles of hiking with my gun and other gear (about 35 lbs total) over a weekend competition with no issues other than being out of shape.

buy an Eberlestock pack. it really is the best way hump a rifle any distance.
