I ordered my barrel for my Edge build today. In looking for a DBM system, I called Jeff at CDI Precision. He say's he can furnish a system that will allow an OAL of 7.325. I called CDI because I prefer AICS mags. Has anybody else put the Edge cartridge in an AICS mag?

I'd like to see that one.

I had the back of my action machined to accept his WSM bottom metal, it really isnt as bad as you may think it is.

Small price to pay for the extra OAL.

You'll need to talk to your builder to get a price for the action mod to use the Seekins system. You really should run his DBM to get the most out of the edge.

If you don't need a DBM system, building a single shot rifle would allow you to run the optimum case OAL.

I agree with scott, you're gonna like it.

The Seekins bottom metal is definitely the way to go if you want to use a detachable mag. If you are firm on using the Badger setup, then a 338 RUM would serve the same purpose. You will be limiting the performance of the Edge by limiting it to the AI mag length. Your smith should be able to open the magwell up easily. Basically the same cut at installing an extended Wyatts mag box. If he has built any Edge's in the past, this is a normal practice.

+1 on the Seekins, that is what I went with in my 338 Lapua and a 300 RUM build. Seekins is top notch without a dought

    Re: .338 Edge

I looked at all the options and also went with the Seekins for my Edge build. As has been said, if you want to stick with AICS mags then just build a 338 RUM. Not much of a point in having the small advantage of the Edge if you have to immediately cancel it out by seating bullets deep. The Seekins mags / bottom metal are really nice, and the modifications are supposedly very minor and easy for any competent 'smith.

    Here's a pic of the Seekins with a 3.9" COAL 338 Edge:

And just for giggles, 338 Edge with 300 grain SMK (3.9") VS. a 308 Win with 175 SMK (2.8"):

go single shot. no restrictions on overall length. with ammo laid out i would imagine you could shoot 4 rounds out of a single shot to 5 rounds out of a magazine. with an edge it only takes one shot to take care of business anyway!

I ordered a Shilen SS 1:10 twist match select. It'll finish at 30 in.

The smith building my gun doesn't have a mill yet. He's just starting out. He already built a .260 for me and I'm very very happy with it. I'll have to send it off to have the milling done. How much would this add to cost of the BM?
