I need to purchase a set of 338 lapua dies and was looking for some input or opinions as to what brand would be good, RCBS bushing style or redding bushing style, two or three die set? As of now all I have done is full legnth resized. Thanks.

Re: 338 lapua dies

I like the Redding Type-S dies. I have the 3 die set and bought the 364 and 365 bushings. The 365 is perfect for Lapua brass.

Welcome to the Hide. Please be careful about posting the items for sale when you don't have at least 50 posts yet. The moderator (s) may come down hard on you.

BTW, nice choice of truck.

I use the Redding bushing Neck and FL sizers, have the body die for quick shoulder bumps, use a Hornady seater with micro-seating stem, but also have the Forster micro seating die.

Neck sizing, seating and body die (sorta like a full length minus the neck sizing as I understand it) This is what I use. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewproduct/?productnumber=423070

Re: 338 lapua dies

I prefer using the RCBS dies along with the Hornady quick-change inserts in my RCBS Rock Chucker press. This way, the reloader doesn't have to set up the dies everytime to reload. I own and operate two sniper rifles chambered in .338 Lapua Magnum and I neck size and full length size both using nothing but RCBS dies and my consistency at long range is incredible.

Re: 338 lapua dies

sakoshooter, thanks for your input. I am just gathering components to start reloading for the 338 lapua. You said your consistancy was great at long range. If you don't mind, What type of powder and bullets are you using?

Re: 338 lapua dies

I mainly use Reloader 19. It gives a pretty good burn rate across the broad spectrum as far as magnum powders go. I've had really good luck using 87.5 grains of Reloader 19 along with the 250 grain Lapua FMJBT projectiles. Hope that this helps.

I'm just guessing that RL-19 is just a tad quick for the 250s. Look for RL-22 or RL-25 if you're going Alliant powders.

For out to 1k, H-4831sc, VV-165, VV-170, H-1000 should be sufficient.
