hey guys im building a 338 lapua and need some quick guidance, i bought a shilen barrel at a local small gunshop for 100.00 yesterday, its in great shape so i found it to be a steal. i then drove to the pawn shop and picked up a remington 700 adl l.a. in 7mm mag (the whole rifle for 280.00) question is will that 338 lapua fit that action? and is there anything im going to need to change on the action. the barrel is for a 700 action.

Action can be used but you need to change the bolt face. You need to open it up, if you go 338 Edge you don't have to mess with the action or bolt face. You will need different bottom metal though.

ok well i saw the cost of the ammo and everything else with a 338 lapua lol. next question than is this, im looking for a rifle that is going to shoot 1500 yards. this is why i was looking at a 338 lapua, will a standard 338 fill my needs? anywhere from 800 to 1500 yards. i know this has been covered so many times with the 308s but im looking for something a little further, 338, or 7mm?

sounds funny but i will hunt coyotes, deer, and elk with it. and would like the ability to reach out there a ways with it in case me n my buddies are in a pissin match on whos rifles bigger lol.

i have a buddy who shoots a 7wsm and has hit targets to 1400 yards, but i would say 338 if you want to still hit hard at those ranges
