Just picked up a rem 700 338 Laupa off this forum and looking for some help with load development.

Factory 338 Laupa with action trued tubb recoil lug, ptg bolt and fluted, muzzle break.

I think it's a 1-10 twist,"? Correct?

And looking for which bullet to use and powder.. Does anybody have a factory 338 Laupa by chance??

If you do pm me I will send me number and we can visit thanks

Lapua, not Laupa
Yes 1:10 twist
Powder: H1000, Retumbo and a few others; read, learn and try. Do not start with maximum loads.
Bullets: Stick with the good kind (Sierra, Lapua, Hornady, Berger); I am assuming that you will shoot at paper and steel. Your rifle will like one better than the others.
1:10 twist should allow you to shoot the 250's and the 300's, depends how far you want to go.
What shoots well in one rifle may not do so well in another.
I do not have a Remington 700 .338LM but I do have a .338LM; same difference, gotta try different loads until you find the right one for your rifle.
Reloading Manuals are a good source of info, does not hurt to have more than one (Sierra, Hornady), the Berger Manual 1st Edition DOES NOT have info on .338LM, they messed up but if you call Berger, they will give you the correct info.
Call powder/bullets Manufacturers when in doubts.
Good luck and have fun.

There are a few of us shooting 338 LM a few hours west of you in the Marshfield area, maybe sometime you can drive on over and we can go through your setup.

Bullets we use are the 250 and 300 grain Scenars
I have some 285 Hornadys to play with sometime if I ever decide to go away from the 300s.

Lapua Brass
Federal primers
Powders used H1000 and Vihtavuori

Cheers

Powder choice depends on your barrel length. The 700's that I've looked up have a 24" barrel w/o muzzle brake. What's the length?
I ask because at 26" with Retumbo or N570 and a "full" powder charge, my muzzle flash is much higher than RL22, indicating unburned powder to me.
Mine really likes Scenars, Sierra and Berger OTMs in 300gr. I have also found very satisfying results using (gasp!) Hornady 250gr SP pills over H870 powder.

What primers are you using?

CCI 250
Federal LRM
Federal LRM Match
Remington 9½

They all work. I don't shoot the 338 at anything less than 300 yards. I cannot tell if there's a difference between one primer or another at that distance.

I shoot the 300 Sierra Match King behind 87 grains of Retumbo. Rifle is a Blaser Tac 2 with 27 inch barrel. Shoots 1/3 minute of angle with this load. Work up load slowly in your rifle.

I've tried Retumbo, H1000 and N570 with Berger 300s. I can get good accuracy with all 3 but Retumbo is the most consistent and generates the highest velocity. Going into it I thought I would of gotten higher velocities out of N570 but that was not the case. H1000 was the slowest of the 3 for me. Hit pressure too early. 28" 9.5tw barrel.

My current rifle, Savage BA110 .338LM, does well with Lapua Brass, Federal 215M primers, H-1000 90.5gr. OAL 3.680, Berger's 250gr. & 300gr. OTM Hybrids.

Check your manual(s) for reference. Recommend starting at lower loads and working up from there. Once you find a load that works, then you can start
seating the bullet as different depths. Again, start lower loads and work up. Good luck and have fun.

Tried Retumbo and N560. Settled on N570, tightest groups by far. Super slow burning and the recoil seemed to be the lowest. Retumbo kicks like a mule.
I'll happily buy any N570 anyone wants to sell.
