This was one of the quickest builds I’ve ever had at just under two months, three of you count the wait for the stock. I sent all the parts to Travis at RBros with what I wanted it throated for and colors and whatnot. I find sourcing parts gets you what you want the way you want it and then pick a great Smith to assemble it.
Defiance Deviant LA with rail cut out - MHSA
Proof 338, 28” Sendero - evolved ballistics
Timney CE straight shoe - PVA
Manners PRS1 - from flat top, only like a 4 week wait
Bottom metal and seamless brake provided by RBros
Cerakoted Tungsten, considering having a subdued American flag painted on the stock by dittokote, should look legit.
Minox ZP5 5-25 MR2 - AXMC Driver, deal with confidence...
NightForce Ultralite rings - RBros, as my Seekins were to short for the Proof.
Throated for 250 Bergers. The load provided shot a .1xx group on his test target. I have a bunch of rounds loaded with his recipe to check ES/SD. I’ve never had a smith provide load data before for free. If it works I’ll take it ha. I also have multiple ladder tests of 250 Bergers, 270 ELDX’s, and 285 ELDM’s since I have quite a few 338s at the house. I have a buttload of 300 Bergers but don’t want to mess with them yet. I provided all loading components for his data, I’m a same lot junkie.
Total weight with optic 11.5 lbs, I like my LRHunters to be between 10.5 and 12, so it’s perfect for me. Add an Atlas and it’s around 12.5.
I am glad to find a smith that keeps to his quoted timeline. RBros, Travis Stevens, and Mark Gordon have all met or exceeded build times for me. While a lot of other smiths I have used put forth a great product, sometimes the wait gets a little nuts...and I get it, good things are worth waiting for and sh!t happens. I’m just very pleased with all parties involved with this build. I can’t wait to kill something with it.
