I noticed recently that Savage has chambered a rifle in .338 Win Mag. I was curious. Seems that it's a bit anemic compared to the .338 Lapua but roughly equals the .300 in velocity with 220 grain (225 grain in the .338) at around 2850 fps. Seems to me that with the velocity being equal
With a case capacity of roughly 75% of the Lapua Magnum, the .338 Win Mag performs at 89% of the Lapua. It also has only 92% of the case capacity of the .300 Win Mag. (H2O) I'm wondering if it is worth looking at for a long range rifle. Does anyone know how this caliber is on barrel life compared to the .300 Win Mag and the Lapua?
