I live in Michigan and straight walled cartridges are popular here because you can hunt with them in shotgun zones. Since the introduction of the 350 Legend I have been thinking about building one for hunting. I am going to purchase a custom action this time, but I am confused about the bottom metal. The overall length of the cartridge is 2.26" so it would appear too short for standard .308 AICS magazines. What kind of bottom metal would be required for this cartridge on a Rem 700 platform? I have only found one manufacturer of bolt-action magazines for the 350 Legend, Ruger. They make a 5-round AICS magazine specifically for the 350 Legend, below is a picture:

Any help would be appreciated.

Curious if this build ever gained traction? My county is allowing straight wall cartridges beginning this season and I’m thinking about doing something similar

I believe Ruger has the Scout rifle using AICS bottom metal and magazine as shown above, also the Ruger American rifle using AR15 magazines.

I don’t know the right combination for a Rem 700 build though.

Can vouch though for 350 Legend being good for deer. My 7 y/o daughter used a 16” AR15 in 350 Legend (suppressed) to smoke her first whitetail doe last winter.

That’s encouraging! As much as I prefer a bolt, I may just get an AR barrel and magazine for the time being and build a bolt gun down the road. What brand was your daughter shooting? How are the groups on paper?

It was the cheapest of the cheap, lol. Bear Creek Armory complete upper for $240. But with Federal 180 gr soft points, I could get it to group 1.5” at 100 yards with a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x.

For her, using a Night Goggles tripod and a Hog Saddle, it was just the ticket.

I built another with a Faxon barrel, but haven’t put that one through the paces yet. Going to handload this year with Hornady bullets, see what happens.
