Are 400modbb barrels worth the extra $250 over the cost of a 416 blank from bartlein?
Trying to procure a 25 cal 400modbb blank for a potential build in the near future and curious if the juice is worth the squeeze in terms of barrel life increase.

I’m still running my first one, jury’s out.

But I’ll say that it didn’t seem to finish breaking in until about 500 rds; I’d have to go back and check my records, but my MV kept increasing beyond the typical 200 or so.

If I get 50% more life out of it, then perhaps it’s worth it. You pay 50% more for the blank, but no cost increase for the smithing.

On the other hand, if I gotta spend 250 more rounds breaking it in, that’s a mild downside. Yes those can be training or club match rounds, but it’s an extra factor.

I have one in a cf wrapped barrel. I had that chambered in 7mm RM. I don't have many rounds on it, but it gives the best accuracy of all the rifles in my safe. That is being compared against other bartlein, rock creek, and hawk hill. I just ordered another for an NRL Hunter open light build.

Wow, prices have gone up, I see (and fuck you Biden).

2 1/2 years ago, MTU in 400modbb was $370 for base barrel and $200 up charge for that steel.

It shoots fine but I only have 1,700 rounds on it so I have no idea yet if the up charge results in any benefit.

Like others have mentioned I found it took 4-500 rounds for the barrel to speed up. I’m 8-900 rounds in on a 6.5CM so I’m hoping it keeps going. Like you, I’m hoping to get more life but only pay smith fees once. Have a 6GT barrel in Modbb as well but it doesn’t have many rounds on it.
