So have a USMC Property Single Shot Rem 40X 22LR and was wondering if there is anyone out there thats doing the machine work and converting these single shot actions to repeaters? Id like to get this converted, trued. Barreled etc and set up to compete in the NRL22 comps and local PRS 22 type matches.

    Appreciate the info guys.

    J. Elrod of MODACAM fame does the conversions. He has done all four of my0Xs, one a SBR. All four are flawless.

I have a U.S. marked 40x converted by MODCAM and really like it. I did have to do alot of work to the extracter and pusher to make it control feed like a Vudoo. You would be much better off money wise by selling your USMC 40x and buying a Vudoo. I just sold a USMC 40x on GB for $1750.00 a couple weeks ago. I would not convert a USMC 40X, I would leave it original and find another 40x to convert or buy a Vudoo.

I’ve thought about it, but having the USMC Property is more of a sentimental thing. It’s one one those things that I’ll never sell, but still want to be able to use the thing. I’d rather put the money into it and keep it. I also have a USMC M40A1 Smear Return stock that I won’t sell (carried one for years in the Corps), so I plan on dropping this 40x into that once the work is done. Yeah, I’m have gonna have to alter the return stock for detachable Mag bottom metal, but when it’s all complete it should be a pretty bitching build. A USMC Property 40x in an M40A1 Return stock will be pretty freakin slick.

What work did your gunsmith have to do to get it to feed properly? Did MODACAM do that work? Does he do all the work (Receiver mod, barrel install, stock work, etc) ?

I didn't convert mine into a repeater, but my 40X M40A1 .22 is my favorite rifle. It being a single shot really doesn't bother me at all... I use it small game hunting and range work on a regular basis. Please post up your completed rifle, I'd love to see it for sure!!

I did the work on the pusher, extractor, mags and followers myself. MODCAM did the conversion and barrel work, Kreiger hvy Palma 22". I purchased new extractor and pusher from Jack First and modified them so they are very close to how the Vudoo is. You have to put a bevel on the bottom of the extractor so the rim will slip under it. You also have to put a slight bevel on the pusher and get the pressure right on it. It will now control feed and extract live rounds. The other thing I did was put a 6x32 screw in the back of the mag even with the pivot pin so the mag can not tilt down, so when you put pressure on the mag from a barricade it will not tilt down and cause a malfunction. The last thing I did was modify the follower so that it stops the bolt from going forward after the last round.
Jeff Hayes at [email protected] did the bolt knob and mine is a 722 like your USMC 40x. I also but a ptg 700 bolt shroud on mine that looks similar to a bighorn, you do have to make a spacer to put inside it to have the proper firing pin protrusion.

Dude! That’s badass! I see you left the return stock pretty unaltered (Floorplate) I’m assuming that’s single shot?
Its not a return stock, haven't been able to get my hands on one of them... I didn't convert mine into a repeater, It being a single shot really doesn't bother me at all. I keep spare rounds on my stock pack and its fairly fast to re-load. It has all the receiver work done to M40A1 specs and sports Winchester modified bottom metal.

Do you have one or know someone that does ? Would like to know more about it . I was searching for someone to do conversions awhile back but all have quit doing them .

    Yes. I have one.

I am not sure if Harless Precision is still doing them or not. He did mine when he was working at Gunsmithing Inc, which was the Anschutz National Service Center here in Colorado Springs. I think he took over for Chad Dixon.
