Sending in my paper work for my 458 socom sbr. Now it's time to find a suppressor. So far I have found the bowers ver 50, Templar tactical Titaniam ark458, and coastal guns model x. All 3 are companies I am not familiar with and have only found a little info on. The bowers seems way too big. I like the size and weight of the Templar just not sure of the suppression? This will be a 10" sbr ar shooting both subs and supers. Range toy and hog hunting.

I am open to other suggestions. Would like to keep price under $1000 if possible. Most important is suppression, must be hearing safe. Next is weight, then size. Thanks for the help.

I have 2 Templar Tactical suppressors, an Ark and Archangel. Both have worked very well for me and aside from a long wait due to the GB (how I got mine), I have no complaints. However the GB seems to have skyrocketed their popularity so they aren't able to be the most... responsive. If you can wait, you won't be unhappy with TT's offerings.

Funny that you ask... because I have the same question (though mine is a 16" gun). I have an Octane 45 in jail now, and I called Silencerco to ask if it could handle subs, and was basically told, "Good question, we'll have to look in to it."

That said, I would be pretty surprised, even if the Octane 45 could handle subs out of a 16" gun, if it could handle supers out of an SBR.

Baron,
What do you anticipate your firing schedule to be? "Range toy" makes me think pretty significant rate of fire, yes?

Here's the thing, while pressures aren't really an issue with the .458, they certainly aren't the easiest to get shooting quiet. You definitely don't want a 45 ACP can. Coastal was boring out their .452" cans to accommodate the .458" rifle projectiles which earned them a bad reputation considering they were absolutely awful. That's back when they were using aluminum K baffles though too. Even then, I've never heard anything good about their .458 cans. With the .458 bore being so large - and your top priority being suppression - I would highly recommend AWC's Thundertrap or the Bowers (who are supposedly now making a 458 specific can but it's rumored to be over a foot long and slightly heavier). I went with AWC as it has a larger diameter and overall internal volume than most. It's a fully welded can which aids in suppression performance and can be had in a brake attach version (THOR model) or direct thread. It is 10" long.....and 30 oz. ? I know, it's as heavy as they come. But if weight is the least of your concerns this is the one. This thing is built like a friggin tank and is a shade louder than my 300 BLK with 405 grain subs. With supers it's still giving me only 130 DBs out of an 8.5" barrel. That ain't bad at all. The only down side is the weight, but if you're going to push 400 gr projos under 37 grs of fast rifle powder to get complete burn (think N110) then you don't want to be shooting through a 1.5" titanium can that's only 7.5" long. It may be nice and handy, but it'll be loud as fuck.

I am mainly concerned with the subsonic suppression. When I shoot supers I usually wear ear protection even when suppressed. I would like for it to be as quiet as my thunderbeast 30ba shooting hot 308s. Is that possible with bowers? How does your thunder trap compare to a suppressed 308?

Weight is lower on the list than suppression but I would shed a significant amount of weight for a decibel or 2. I believe the bowers was 20 oz so if it's a bit louder than the thunder trap I would prefer the bowers. But if it's a lot liuder I would go thunder trap. Any input?

I have my Templar Tactical 458 can in jail at my FFL...expect about another three months before I get it in hand. I am maily a 405gn sub shooter on a 16", so peak pressure should be down and am exepcting a pretty quiet end result. Hearing safe....not sure on that. At 6" , 10.5 oz and 1.5" diamater, that may be asking a lot for sure....

The can seem like a very nice piece of kit, all looked well made. Also had an Ark 30 with an SBR rated baffle (for dual duty on a 300 Blk and 11.5" 5.56) come in at the same time and that seemed pretty decent as well. The rub on both was the price was great, the ~18 month wait, not so much.

I picked my Coastal Guns 'X' model 458 can yesterday, submitted mid September. I have not had a chance to shoot it. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the quality, fit and finish, inside and out, looks to be on par with my AAC and Silencerco cans. I have a 16" 458 put together now and have a SBR 458 I am almost finished with. I LOVE the 458 Socom round, it is the most fun round I own to shoot.

Using Outlaw State Bullets 530 grain projectiles I hope to make a quiet subsonic, yet powerful, short range deer/pig HAMMER.

Quality looks good...let's hope durability and performance follow suit.

If you want quiet youre going to need a big can. The little 8" cans arent going to get it done. I too have an SBR 458, 9.5" to be exact and thats a big chore to tame. Without the can in broad daylight it shoots a 2' flame out of the muzzle and rattles the rafters even without a muzzle brake. With my bowers its pretty pleasant. While it is long its light for its size. If you compare it to the other 458 cans its about the same weight. I had some technical difficulties with mine due to no fault of Bowers and Tom has been awesome. I wouldnt buy from anyone else. Ive got about 300 rounds through mine now.

Thanks for the replies I ended up buying a bowers this weekend at the silencer shop. Can't wait!!! Now for the big wait
