5.11 vs Condor

What pack would be better the 5.11 72 hour or the Condor 3 day pack? I will be using it for hunting but mostly take all my stuff to the range. Does anyone have both or used both thanks.

Have you looked at Eberlestock In my opinion and I have 511 and condor ... Eberlestock is superior to both. But that is my opinion...

I personally like my 5.11 pack and I have numerous packs. There are many out there that are really well made but you have to wonder if they were disigned by someone that actually has to carry stuff.

The best materials/construction are worthless if you can't access it quickly or if the compartments are poorly designed and this is where 5.11 outshines some higher end stuff. It's worth a look.

I've been a fan of Maxpedition... but have recently been turned onto Eberlestock. My buddy and I will be ordering a couple of Eberlestock packs this week- heard a lot of great things about them. What is your price range?

The 5.11 is probely the top of what I want to pay. Also If I get the Condor I will get the A-TACS pattern it's only $20 cheaper than the 5.11.

I really love my 5.11 3 day pack. Its comfortable even when loaded full of ammo and water, and the style of the bag makes it easy to lay it down flat, throw open the zipper and quickly find something, like looking through an open suitcase rather than looking through a backpack. I also like the separation of the main pouch from the secondary, which with the straps you can use to carry larger items, like dirty boots and I have even strapped an M4 in real tight and it was snug and secure. Some people I know with the same pack complain that the shoulder straps aren't easily adjustable while you are wearing it, which is true but never bothered me.

PRO - Holds a ton of heavy stuff rather comfortably, comes in "cool" colors.

CON - Shoulder strap adjustability. I lost the sternum strap doing a tactical competition, so maybe keep a close on eye on that too.

My Eberlestock pack is by far the best made pack I have ever owned. It's well worth the money as its not going to wear out. I have had very good luck with 5.11 products and wouldn't hesitate to buy any of their products. I have one 5.11 go bag, its nice but is not as well thought out as my maxpedition bag. It is still a nice bag and a little cheaper. Camelbak would be another pack I would look at. I have a Camelbak pack that I have been using for the last 10 years still no problems with zippers or fabric. The Condor Gear I have is sort of a cheap immitation of the name brand products. I have noticed a big difference in zippers and finish work. If its something you are going to use once in a while and don't mind replacing it then get the Condor, but I have noticed that the quality of their products is not up to that of the name brand competition, but then neither is their price.

I'm a dealer for 5.11, Condor, Camelbak, Maxpedition, Spec/OPS, Eberlestock, Voodoo, and a host of other companies who offer packs. I'd never tell you which to choose, as much of the decision comes down to what YOU like, not what I tell you you should like.

With this in mind, what Eberlestock is offering with the X1, X3 LoDrag, X4 HiSpeed, FAC Track, Halftrack, and Gunslinger II is going to be the best of the bunch for your intended applications. Extremely well designed, reliable, and versatile in both the woods and at the range. If you're going to be hauling loads in excess of 25 pounds, I would absolutely jump these to the top of consideration, as the harness & support system is much more substantial than anything from 5.11 or the other companies offerings listed above (exception: Camelbak offers a few packs that can handle heavier loads, but they can't go up to Eberlestock weights & still be comfortable). You'll spend a few more bucks, but you'll have a pack that can fulfill many more applications...

IF you're wanting a pack that takes up a smaller footprint & won't ever be lugging much more than 15-20 pounds of gear, then the companies listed above come into play. If you're budget is around $135.00 (based on you saying that the 5.11 Rush 72 is your baseline), then I'd also consider:

--Maxpedition Condor II;
--Spec/OPS T.H.E. Pack (I have ONE in Coyote that I could hook you up with that won't exceed your budget);
--Voodoo Tactical Matrix OR the Tobago pack;
--Condor Urban Go pack;
--J-Tech Heracles pack (I have ONE in O.D. that I could hook you up with that won't exceed your budget);

Obviously, there are other brands out there that have worthy offerings. While I'm not going to say that going the 5.11 route is a bad decision, I will say that the Rush series of packs has seen a wholesale price increase of nearly 30 percent since the end of 2010. There have been no updates or upgrades to the design in that time. I have observed irregular stitching quality in greater frequency in the latest models. If you're going to get one, make sure that you're able to inspect the pack FIRST, before pulling out your wallet...

Great post Ceylon - thanks for such detail. I own a Gunslinger that I have owned from days before I joined this forum and its a super piece of kit.

One question for you Ceylon-
Are there any good internet resources that you would point us to that highlight how to custom fit a pack to your body? A big part of hauling heavy loads is getting that pack adjusted correctly.

I can't comment on 5.11 or condor, but I have a camelbak linchpin and really like it.

You might consider just how much stuff your going to be hauling around and size your pack to your needs. The Condor 3 day pack has over 3000 cu. in. of storage, that is a lot, and can get heavy if packed full of ammo, mags, spotting scope, and misc gear.

My hunting pack holds gilly jacket, hat, couple pair of gloves, Face mask, Foxpro call, couple extra mags, rangefinder, water, snacks, extra jacket, and sundry other things. It is around a 1500 cu. in. pack. Still have room to lash my heavy coat to the outside if need be. Carry my rifle slung across my chest ready in case a yote gets up in front of me. Haven't weighed it but would guess it is around 20lb. Plenty when on a long set.

I'm probably the only one here that isn't a fan of the Eberlestock gunslinger. And yes I own one, it's heavy just by it's self. Put a rifle, ammo, and all the other crap listed above and your pushing 40 lb or more. Not my idea of fun, and your rifle isn't handy either.

Just my 2 cents, but consider keeping it light.

This is a very good point. I have the terrible habit of filling a pack until its full and carrying around more than I need, rather than "wasting" the extra space.

Im really leaning to get the 5.11 I have been looking at others but just like the 5.11. I really like how I could carry stuff on the outside I have always wanted that option. Thank you for the great info. For what i'm going to use it for i wont have alot of weight and I wont be carrying it very far. I have alittle cheap pack now and I always have to stuff everything in there and it gets kinda heavy. I'd rether have more space than I need and not use it but it's there for the bigger stuff. LOL I do the same thing. I have had a 511 4 in 1 jacket for about 5 years, no problems with it at all. Still looks great and functions great. I was issued a Condor "Phantom" 4 months ago, initially I liked it. I noticed the sizing was about one size smaller than 511, but liked the jacket. Unfortunately, the zipper always seemed to get stuck and in less than 2 months, the zipper pull came off so I can't close the jacket. On the 511 it has both snaps as well as a zipper which after 5 years of use is still going strong.

I've got the phantom and alpha fleece. The phantom is nothing but amazing all the great features of a north face but half the price. The alpha is also really nice, been jumping with it under my flight suit and its awesome

I was wearing it with just a tshirt in high 30s. It's pretty warm but at the same time not to warm.
