Hello everyone, I'm looking for some data using the new(ish) Hornady 75gr BTHP Match projectile.

I'm using LC and FC once-fired brass, FL sized to -3 HS, trimmed on a Giraud, with Wolf .223Rem primers. I have both Varget and RL-15 to use for this load, and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this load?

Rifle:
20" Armalite HBAR with 1:8" twist.

I just bought two boxes last month from Bass Pro Shops, but have yet to load them up. I did load some 75gr AMAX up and shot them in July, using Varget, VV-150 and they did ok in my basic 20" Bushy 1:7" upper.

I think both those powders you mention are fine for the heavier 224 bullets.

Re: (5.56x45) Hornady 75gr BTHP Load data?

Hornady 7th lists the following for their 75gr BTHP:
(20 AR-15 1:9") Winchester case, WSR primer

Varget: 19.1gr vel: 2200
24gr max vel: 2700

RL-15: 20.0gr vel: 2200
24.1gr vel: 2700

Has anyone tried these yet?

Re: (5.56x45) Hornady 75gr BTHP Load data?

I'm using 23.5gr Varget in LC brass with WSR primers with these bullets seated to 2.255" in a 20" RRA 1-8"tw rifle with a Wylde chamber. Velocity is 2680fps in my rifle. Accuracy is 1/2-3/4 MOA. 24.0gr Varget was piercing primers.

As always, start low and work up your own load. Your rifle is different than mine and may show pressure sooner. Your rifle also may not like the load mine does. Start low and work up in 0.5gr increments till you see pressure or find an accuracy/velocity node that works for you.

Re: (5.56x45) Hornady 75gr BTHP Load data?

I'm shooting the 75's out of a 20" 7.7 twist barrel using winchester brass, fed 205m primers and 24.5 gr of RL-15, velocity is right around 2800, and accuracy is .3 to .6
Mine is a bolt gun, I dont know how this would do in yours, but them same load in my 20" Ar was a little too hot, and acurracy was not quite as good when I backed off.

Re: (5.56x45) Hornady 75gr BTHP Load data?

Thanks everyone for your contributions. I will be sitting down at the loading bench this evening to prepare for a ladder test tomorrow. I'll have a 200yd range all to myself, and access to 1,000yd range later in the day.

Will be sure to update this thread once I know what load I'll be going with.

Re: (5.56x45) Hornady 75gr BTHP Load data?

Well, I worked up 30 rounds, three rounds each for charges in .3 increments from 21gr to 23.7gr

Ladder test showed only one accuracy node, though it encompassed rounds from 22.5 through 23.4 All of these seemed to have the same POI, +-.25"

Velocities followed the data provided by Hornady, with no signs of pressure, even on the 23.7gr charge. Accuracy seemed to really drop off though.

I'm going to work up batches of 5 rounds, starting at 22.1, and increasing in .2gr increments through 23.5gr.

Shoot for groups at 400yds, and see which is best...

More in a few weeks, when I can get back to the range.

Here is what my wife's DPMS Mini SASS produced with 24.8g of Varget
