OK, looking to get a stoopid rifle. I've had three different 50s over the years, I always say it's my "shitty girlfriend that I that I know I'm better off without, but I always keep her number in my phone....". Every time I sell a 50 I swear it's my last one, but I still keep all the ammo.

In the past I started with a single shot from a company called VM Hy-Tech, then onto a Barret M99 and finally a Windrunner. All 3 long gone in exchange for the next shiny object.

Until a few days ago I was pretty set on a M107a1, because what's better than a suppressible semi-auto??? This (and all my previous 50s) are just for fun. Nothing else I've ever take a group of people out to shoot has made everyone smile more than a 50. It makes everyone giggle like a school girl.

But after looking around, there are some really interesting 50s out there. I want to go with a repeater, but certainly doesn't have to be semi auto.

I did some internet searching, but this isn't a popular topic for comparisons. Therefore I was hoping enough people here have shot or owned 50s and can give me their experience and opinion.

I have the following list of candidates:

    Barrett M107a1
    Barrett M95
    McMillan TAC50-C
    Cadex Tremor 50
    Steyr HS50
AI AW50 (if one comes up that's reasonable)

There is also Desert Tech, which I'm not too hot on. But if enough people said it was the shit, I would also consider it.

    Thanks.

Go with your pick of the Barrett M107 A1

Having gone through several rifles and shot several others, I'm going to say that the semi-auto Barrett is by far the nicest repeater to shoot.

Also if you are going to go suppressed, the Barrett suppressor that still has the break on the end is a must.

A .50 BMG rifle with a standard style suppressor will feel like a mule kicked you in the face with every pull of the trigger.

If you need to be a poor and don't need to be suppressed and don't mind single round feed and don't mind carrying around a truck axle, then the Armalite AR-50 A1 is actually really nice to shoot and pretty accurate.

Appreciate all the comments so far.

I know there are far better rounds from an accuracy and ballistic point of view, but mil surplus ball ammo is $3 a round and most of the people I've let shoot my 50s are luck to hit paper at 50 yards. I'm looking for cheap fun vs shooting a bad guys thumb off at 2000 yards.

I tell people from a giggles per $$ point of view, nothing is cheaper to shoot than a 50. Folks shoot 4-5 rounds ($15 worth) and smile ear to ear the entire time. You can't get that with $15 of any other caliber.

Europtic has the Barrett 107 with steel upper on sale for 10,999. The Barrett suppressor for the 107 is half the price the new thunderbeast 50 can

The difference is 1 pound and 3,000$ I think it is a steel receiver instead of an aluminum receiver. The steel receiver part number has -S at the end. All the rest of the m107 parts are the same I believe.

Barrett is doing a sale right now and europtic has them in stock. The 107 on sale is the heavier ones with the steel reciever designated by the -S after the part#.

    Thanks much.

I'm going to pull the trigger on a 20" steel upper in grey.....

Now I'm on the search for a QDL suppressor!
