i am looking to buy a bell and carlson tactical medalist style 5 fully adjustable stock for my 5r .308. the info on the stock says that it is easily modified to fit the 5r mil spec. what exactly is the modification that it needs? the web sites i am looking at them on all say this but no explination to what i will need to modify. any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 5r question

Contact Red Hawk Rifles in CO. Dick will email you back in a few hours even on weekends. I'm building a 300 win mag and had a stock question last night. I had a response and Bell/Carlson model numbers that will fit waiting on me when I woke up this morning. Also, you can't beat his prices. Vincent

Re: 5r question

There are no mods required.

The 5R uses the exact same action as any other remington (SA for .308/.223, LA for .300 WM). It uses the exact same barrel profile as any rem varmint/sendero.

My feeling is that since they are advertised as using the "same barrel" as the M24, there was a mistaken belief that the profile was the same as the M24 and no one has bothered to correct it.

From the stocky stocks website for the B&C A5:

-fits factory hinged floorplate and Wyatt's Detachable System;
-Cut for the standard Rem #3 Varmint / Tactical barrel;
-easily modified for 5R mil. spec. and most other heavy contours;
-includes the 700 SPS, XCR, VTR Varmint and Tactical type rifles.

The 5R IS a standard varmint/tactical contour.

Re: 5r question

The M24 and the 5R actually have different contours- the M24 has a heavier contour, like a Rem #4 or #5, whereas the standard Rem varmint contour is #3, which is what the 5R has.

So, the B&C Tactical A5 stock should fit the 5R right out of the box without any modifications.
