6.5 creed build short stroking

Just finished up my build and was out sighting it in and breaking the barrel in... as I was adjusting the gas block it kept short stroking all the way up to full open on the gas block. I finished out the day with the block closed so I could get he barrel done and the scope sighted in.
Came home and noticed the gas block does appear to be leaking gas out of the adjustment screw so I pulled it off and with the gas tube still attached I can blow with my mouth in the tube and get the block to leak in every position but full closed.

I will include my build list below but my thinking is either the leaking gas or the buffer setup... my gas block is a slr rifleworks and my buffer setup is a rifle size with a DPMS buffer and spring.

Proof research 22” with the camgas gas tube setup (this is supposed to be tuned for 6.5 creedmoor but I decided to play it safe and add an adjustable gas block Incase I needed to tune the gas down but I’m having the opposite problem)
Battle Arms Development bcg
Rise trigger
Aero precision lpk
Jp hand guard
Prs stock

I was shooting 140g Hornady American gunner ammo at the time

Had the exact problem with mine. I ended up using a rifle buffer and sprinco green spring. Also not sure if the BAD BCG is full mass or low but you will need a full mass BCG. I started with a JPLMOS and had short stroking issues. Also make sure the gas block is fully seated.

The BAD is a full mass from my findings, I ordered a Armalite buffer spring after I reading it a better spring to use. I double checked the gas block and it’s properly seated and aligned. If Armalite spring doesn’t help I will note the green spring as a item to try.
After some more reading I have found out that the proof barrel with the camgas system has a tiny gas port hole and most guys have drilled them bigger then tuned the gas to there needs with a adjustable block. As of right now I’m just shooting factory ammo but later on I will be working on handloads so it would be nice to stick to an adjustable block.

Yep for some reason Proof drills their gas ports small...no idea why. My proof barrel (same as yours) had the same issue. I just ended up using the new buffer spring and then tuning the gas system from there.

Since you already have an adjustable gas block I would opt to open up the gas port. If you have a set of calipers measure the gas port then with a little google foo see the next step up in size. Drill/test etc. Unless you are a gorilla and drill through into the lower part of the barrel its pretty easy.

I can't tell how many rounds you have fired... but it might just need a little more break-in.

And , yes the the PR CamGas will have a small GP.

I only have 46 rounds through it at this point so some more break in might help. I have done a lot of reading and it seems a lot of guys resort to drilling the gas port.
I will try a couple different buffer springs and get some more rounds through it then make drilling the gas port my last resort.

It's not a big job and pretty easy if you take your time. Its also free if you have the tools.

You know it's under gased so why not skip the bandaid and fix it?

I’m not too worried about it at all, I’m a welder/fab guy in my free time and I do have everything to do the job. I just wasn’t sure if I screwed up somewhere along the lines when I was building it. I’m already planning on pulling the barrel so I can smooth up the edges on the feed ramps a little so my brass stops getting scratches so I might go ahead and drill it then.
