6.5 creedmoor 147

heres a quick question for you all been working up a load for my 147eld match 6.5 creedmoor been using my copy of hornady reloading for it. h4350 powder federal match primers and starline brass. the book says 40.3grains max load at 2600 ftp but when i look at hodgons site it say 41.8grains at 2680 ftp. which ones would you guys use. i'am thinking more of the hodgons site but not sure

Start low and work up, watching for pressure signs. Nobody will be able to tell you what load is plug and play with your setup.

One thing to keep in mind, I know starlines 223 has less case capacity that other brands. Not sure if that's the case in 6.5 as well.

41-41.5 seem to be the sweet spot for the guys I know

he goes up to 42. something I am sure you could go faster if that is what you wanted but his results will vary from yours there are tons of video's showing different people running the 147gr bullet best of luck finding results you like in your gun .

lapua SRP with 41.54 g h4350 gets me about 2620 in my 24 inch tikka ctr.

It all depends on your particular set of variables: chamber size, freebore length, powder burning rate, primer, etc. Some people are able to load a lot more powder without pressure signs. Others blow primers with lesser loads. You have to understand how your rifle behaves.

i then did my buddys cadex 26inch barrel rifle, 20thou off the lands and we are at almost the same number. so we are at the sweet spot now

Hornady seems to be pretty darn conservative with its max charges…I’ve seen a few that are several grains lower than other manuals.

41.8 is an absolute Hammer of a load with I4350. It touches bullets at 100 yards and shoots 2675 from my 21 inch Savage with no flash...for those low light shots. I shoot this at 2.820. Using Magnum primers for brass life and SDs are around 9-10.

He's trying to tell you to stop being lazy and use capital letters at the beginning of sentences. Using all lower case makes it unnaturally harder for someone to read.

Depends on the rifle. I've seen a lot of pressure signs when above 41.0 gr (4 different guns). Just work your way up.

I have been using 6.5 Stabull,has worked very well ,finally went to Small Rife Lapua brass with CCBR,s 43.0 averages 2805,SD run's around 8-10 have 8# of that lot ,tried a 1#er of another lot and it was 2782 with 43.0, will try 43.1 and 43.2 tomorrow, Barrel is a 26" wit a E C Tuner on it on my Christenson Arms Mesa Long Range

you can easily go to 42.5 with Lapua brass, SRP, 20 thou off the lands with the 147 if you have a “normal” chamber. Mine are at 41.7 H4350. 1/2 moa, zero pressure signs, not as accurate as some of my Scenar-L 136 and Berger 140s but it’s a good load.
Scenar 136 is my favourite bullet for this caliber but I mostly shoot inside 600 yards these days.

I have that exact same barrel (IBI 26" heavy palma), bullet, and powder. Not that interesting but mine is a bit slower. With Lapua brass and CCI primers I got:

41.4gr, 5rd avg. 2746, SD 12
41 6gr, 7rd avg. 2764, SD 5

Hornady with Fed 210M
41.8gr avg. 2730, SD 12

Kind of a quirky thing, I had to switch to a small base die when using my IBI barrel or the base of the brass gets stuck. Not sure why.

Same everything I get very similar speeds. It slows down a bit more with Hornady brass.

Do you think with their lower speeds a Tikka barrel sees less pressure and will outlast faster barrels?

A 26” Heavy Palma and a 24” Heavy Palma spiral fluted.
Neither one needs a small base die.
Are you sure your headspace is set correctly?

I’m just beginning my testing of Hornady 147 ELD-M
Mine shoots 139gr Lapua Scenars and Nosler 140gr RDF much better.

Preliminary testing with the 24” barrel on an Ultimatum Deadline in an MDT ACC Chassis.

Older brass had more issues. If a case does chamber tightly and then extracts I can see scuff marks at the base going about 1/4" up the side.

Really tight brass holds the bolt open about the same 1/4" and aften a light attempt to close the bolt it requires extreme force to reopen it. If it were headspace I didn't think it would do that but I am no expert.

Someone reccomended small base dies and it fixed the issue although I am overworking the brass more than I like. I have used this brass and die in six other barrels without issue.
