6.5 Creedmoor factory ammo

Factory 140 eld m have shot great in all my 6.5’s.

Just tried Berger 130 and 140 in the last few months. The 140 didn’t shoot quite as good as eld but the 130 hybrid shoots lights out in my axiom, my tikka, and several friends guns. Just got in several more cases.

Plus you get lapua brass with the berger ammo.

Now this is off a bench or prone. But shows what they can do.

I’m fairly new to this and those are 5 shot groups. I usually throw one out there out of 5 so someone more experienced and consistent would do better.

I think this is a group with the Berger’s. 5 shots at 700. The orange dot is 3 inches.

Don’t really take too many pics anymore.

Has anybody experienced factory 147s shooting better than factory 140s?

My PVA 18” 1:8 seems to like the 147s more, and only gives up about 20fps to the 140s.

i tried them and my mpa 6.5 and tikka didn't like them. I can't remember group size. This was over a year ago but didn't do near as good as the 140's.

I need to get both of these to try out. Almost bought some spark to try out a few months ago

Have you shot the Berger’s and able to compare these?

Yes I have shot the Berger’s. The Spark ammo was more consistent and my rifle seemed to like it better. Overall better groups. I’ve taken the Spark and Prime ammo to 1300 yards with no issues at all.

147gr shoots well in all my rifles. I would either shoot 147 eldm or American gunner. The eldm seem like the red headed step child to me. Not nearly the BC of the 147 and 60% higher cost compared to the American gunner Ammo with little performance gains.

I prefer the Berger 140 hybrid factory ammo over both 140&147 eld-m.
Hornady isn’t consistent as it was 2-3 years ago (based on my experience).

My rifle would argue it's better than it used to be.

OP: if you need to practice affordably try the American Gunner 140bthp. I have had repeated sub moa groups in every rifle I've tried.
And the $40/50 isn't bad, when the bag of empty brass is $35/50.

Every rifle is different, so you may need to try a few different loads.

Buy some Spark Munitions or Prime ammunition. You will not be disappointed.

I’ll second the recommendation on Spark Munitions. That is hands down the most consistently accurate factory ammo I have shot. I was also getting outstanding velocities with a 6.5 and 308 as well. With the 6.5 I was shooting a 140’s at 2840 out of a 24” barrel. For the 308 I was getting 2760 with a 168 out of a 24” barrel. Both would hover right around 1/2moa.

My experience is the factory Hornady 140gr ELD-M is sub-half MOA at 400 yards (shooting 5 & 10 round groups). In calm/consistent winds, and shooting from the prone, I'm able to hit a 12" plate pretty consistently at 1,000 yards. I've shot it out to 1,400 yards, and my hit percentage is a little under 50%, but that's not the ammo's fault ;)

I have the same results only at much closer distances. Curious to know what rifle you are using, twist rate, and length of barrel? Thanks in advance.

Anyone shot Hornady 6.5 Creedmoor factory ammo for prs style shooting? What type of consistency should I expect? If you know of any better factory ammo I would like to know also. I saw Berger offers match ammo and Lapua also. Any advice would be appreciated

I tested several different high end factory 6.5CM loads in my Mesa Precision Arms rifle review last year. The data table for all those is in the review. Several were very good performers with roughly .5MOA 5 shot group sizes and SD's went as low as 11.84fps. There is some very good stuff out there. The best stuff, on balance, in my rifle was the Berger 140gr and I certainly recommend trying that, but you need to try out a variety of rounds with your rifle as best in one rifle does not mean best in another for reasons I explain in the ammo section of the article.

I was getting a 10.6 sd on the 153 hornady a-tip from copper creek, with a 10 shot group under an inch, I would post the pics but unfortunately I accidentally deleted it along with some other pics

The Hornady 6.5 ELD is excellent. The Berger and Lapua will probably shoot just as well, but at a higher price.

I have had very good results with the SD in the 5-10 range from both the Hornady 140ELD-M and 143ELD-X bullets with my Ruger Precision rifle in 6.5 CM used for PRS. My interest would be to load these in my 6.5x284 used for hunting. I currently use 140 Berger Hunting VLD’s and 140/142 JLK’s. Both the Berger and JLK’s have produced excellent results on game for several years out to 1000+ yards at my 6.5x284 velocity of 3000FPS. I have not used either of the Hornady bullets in 6.5CM on game but am interested in hearing about the performance and may consider them for use in my 6.5x284.
