I have shot a variety of competitive shooting sports for the last 35 years. I have just taken up big game hunting earlier this year. First animal was a Fallow taken with my PRS rig in 6.5 Creedmoor. Second this weekend was an Axis took on a different 6.5 Creedmoor. In hunting the most important thing seems to be shot placement and bullet selection. I’m considering a new build vs, swapping things around and was seriously looking at a 6.5 PRC. Since its such a new round there is a limited Factory Bullet Selection, and I dont currently load for either of these calibers.
I’m not really interested in going with a 300 Win Mag for regular hunting gun. I Really liked hunting Axis, and will continue the Texas Deer Slam - Sika next then Blackbuck.... I do have some interest in Pronghorn, Mule Deer and Elk. I dont think I will ever be a back country hunter, so the super lite rifle for the 700 yard cross canyon shot doesn’t appear to be in my future.
It has been suggested that you can hot load a 6.5 Creed pretty close to a similar barrel length 6.5 PRC Factory loading. I believe that could be partially true.
Is the PRC worth going for over keeping a 6.5 Creed?
