6.5 Grendel - Bullet

12" Grendel that I just got put together. I'm shooting factory 123eldm, but just have an aimpoint on it right now so I can't say what accuracy really is. I'm wanting an economical bullet for shooting steel to around 500yds and good expansion on yotes or similar sized critters. I was thinking the 107 TMK may be better suited for this due to the short barrel. Thoughts? Thanks.

107 tmk isn't that great of a bullet for Grendel. For plinking, 120 smk is a good round, it just can't handle the wind as well the further out it goes. Other then that I use the 108 & 123 scenar. I usually find a box of 100 for $30

I have been playing around with 100gr eld lately. Shoots excellent in both my grendel's and I like the velocity over the 120+ class bullets. I havent really stretched it out past 500 with these to see how they do, but they are flatter shooting in that range for hunting. Havent had a coyote take a step with them yet.

I've used the 120 Nos BT's with pretty good success (was hitting steel targets in a match at 950yds on a calm, windless morning), but that was with a 24" barreled OW upper from AA. Accuracy was (obviously) pretty good.

I am building up an 18" upper for hunting and have both the 95 Vmax and 100eldm's on hand. Looking forward to getting it out on critters...if I can keep it away from son! Apple didn't fall far from the tree... I have heard nothing but good things about the 100gn eldm's performance on critters.

To be honest, most of the six Grendel barrels I have are very load tolerant and not difficult to find a load that will get into the .75-1.0 range, better with a bit of effort. Have used 100/120 Nosler BT’s, 123CC’s, 129 ABLR’s, 108/120/123 Lapua’s, 107/120/123 Sierra’s, 123 AMax/SST with CFE223, 8208, AR Comp over BR4/CCI41 primers and am always able to find something for each barrel. Pick the bullet that fits your needs and work up a load for it using your data, not everyone else’s. One caution on Nosler seconds, they can run up to .025 off in BTO in a single batch, so sort them and they’ll shoot.
