6.5 LBC Build

Re: 6.5 LBC Build

Did you look at what Steve Satern does with the Grendel?

Same ctg as the .264 Les Baer Ctg, but unless you just want to pay for Les Baer gear... Satern Machining is very esteemed by Palma and other Longrange Competitors. Don't know of any that shoot a baer...

Don't know that he builds completed uppers, but Satern is The Man to see for a primo 6.5 Grendel as it's all about the barrel and the bolt.

What are the planned uses?
If moving around a lot but still shooting long range a 22 in a Precision profile, .950 under the guard, .875 gas block, .850 front end.
If off the bench all the time, 24 .980 under the guard, .936 Gas block, .900 front end.
Les Baer isn't the only one chambering the 264LBC and many like the traditional match chambers 1.5 degree throat because it is more accurate then the Grendels compound throat angle.
I would put a Krieger or Bartlein over a Satern any day, just look at the barrels being used in benchrest competition.

Re: 6.5 LBC Build

Every Grendel I have seen/owned has been very iffy. Saturn or not. Didnt matter. Try 3 Saturn barrels ordered at the same time, only one shoots good. Some will shoot, some will not. I think its a 6.5 Grendel chamber issue or reamer issue, not an issue with Saturn Barrels. EVERY Les Baer I have seen shoots. Every one of them. I would go 22" but thats just me. Let me know how it goes!

Re: 6.5 LBC Build

the grendel has a very generous neck and throat to accomodate every bullet weight resulting in some very picky barrels I have three and none shoot great with any particular load or reload (tried 52 dif recipes so far, still get flyers and around 1 MOA)
Les baer used to make grendel specs Ar barrels and was unhappy with the accuracy, so, he redesigned the chamber dims and renamed it the 264LBC. You can shoot any grendel load through it and the only problem is enhanced accuracy
hope this helps.

Re: 6.5 LBC Build

I have a 24" LBC 264 barreled upper with matching bolt and LBC carrier built by Precision Firearms. No problems to report. To date I'm getting consistent .6 MOA 5 shot groups at 200 yds when I do my part. Wish I could report < .5 MOA, but I'm simply not there yet. I do reload, and 29 gr of Win748 behind a 123 gr Scenar is my favorite so far.

Re: 6.5 LBC Build

Thanks guys for all the help , yea i am going to go with the LBC mainly becuse of all you hear is good about it and it sure is alot cheaper to buy the the Grendel uppers. Thanks again
