I am honest curious about this cartridge? I own the big brother, the 350 RM which is my primary hunting rig, I love the cartridge, not the best ballistics, but all out a great round for any big game, I looked over a lot of cartridges for a build, I know as far as ammo and availiblity goes other calibers such as, 260, 308, 243, 6.5 creedmoor,338 etc are a better selection, I own 1 heavy barrelled savage 308, and a a remington VTR 223.. I am for some odd reason interested in the the 6.5 rem mag? Any one have any FACTS about this cartridge they would like to share, let me know.. BTW, I am no shooter, 500 yds is about my limit..

Re: 6,5 rem mag

i killed my first deer in 1973 with a M700 remington in 6.5 RM. it was the only centerfire rifle i owned for a long time. i still have it and also have a rem 660 in that chambering. so i have a soft spot for it. it does have it's faults. most bullets have to be seated into the powder space in order to get the cartridge into the mag. it has a belt which i'm trying to get away from. i think factory loads only come with 120 grn bullets and most 6.5 users like the long 140 or greater weight(WAY into the powder space unless you build one on a long action) but it's still a neat cartridge. you'll probably be the only kid on the block that has one. performance is about like a 6.5-06 or 6.5-284(they don't have that damn belt!!) if i was to find another one in good shape and at a good price i wouldn't hesitate to buy it. if i was going to build one, i'd rather go with the 6.5-06 or the 6.5-284, because you'd get the same(or better with heavier bullets) perforance without the belt. but that's just my personal preference. good luck with your choice.
