Mike,
I know this is a month late and probably a couple dollars short, if you haven't tried it already. But, what I've found is loads generally tend to work out for RE-17 to about starting-midrange loads of 4350(even though Re-17 is slower). I haven't loaded 6.5-284 with this as I don't have one. But, I have loaded 6mm-.284, 6mm Rem, .243 Win, 25 WSSM, .257 Rob, 7x57 (my LR accuracy rifle) .30-06, and .308 with it. It really is great stuff. so far I've been through 6 lbs. and am currently working through my second 5 lb. jug. The results are nearly identical from case to case as you work the powder up. YOu start getting really good velocity and accuracy. Go up from there, velocity and accuracy start to get erratic, but with no signs of pressure. Back off and you are in where you should be with the powder.
Some people talk about phenomenal velocities with this powder. I got that too (3600 80 gr. out of .243). From what I've read, when velocities get like that you are in the upper working end of the retardant and should back down to where accuracy and velocity were tight.
Also, I wouldn't recommend this in a gas gun. The retardant works to slow the powder down to slow burning powder speed if you get too much. Effectively leaving too much pressure at the port and the chance to damage your gas system. Or op rod if you shoot a Garand/M1A.
