For those shooting the round. What is the average COAL you are experiencing. I understand each round has a diff COAL..but if you could post your round and COAL it would be appreciated. Trying to figure out a issue with my reloads. Must appreciated.

Re: 6.5 x 47 COAL?

I ended up at 2.683" for cartridge overall length with 123 scenars. My chamber was cut with a reamer to yield a shorter freebore for the lighter to mid class weight bullets though. Most guys running the 139/142 gr bullets will have spec'd a longer throat and have a longer overall lenth.

Not sure what problems you may be having, but based upon the reamer freebore used, your COAL might end up a little shorter or a quite a bit longer than mine. Your gunsmith will be able to tell you the freebore it was set up with.

Here's a site with good info on other COAL and reamer data:

Best of luck.

Re: 6.5 x 47 COAL?

It really depends upon your chamber's throat length. My buddies, cut by Surgeon rifles, is .093". Mine cut my Chris Matthews of Long Shot rifles is .104". The two in the attached link to http://www.6mmhot.com/6.html run .125" and .160", respectively.

In my .104" throat I get the following when seating the bullets against the lands.

140 MK = 2.587"
140 VLD = 2.73"
140 Amax = 2.678"
120 BT = 2.635"
120 Amax = 2.583"

I've got 123 MK's, Scenars and 130 Berger's being delivered tomorrow if you want me to post their length.

Suggestion: If you're looking into having a rifle built, get your gunsmith to send you a copy of their reamer print. If you already have the rifle, same thing. If they don't have it, more than likely the shop that built the reamer will have a digital print of the reamer and it can be emailed to you.
