I have a mark 3 with a 308 and wanting to step into the 6.5 game and finding mixed opinions. I thought I wanted a 260 rem. but now seriously thinking of a 6.5 lapua.
I mostly want to shoot steel out to a k, grounds hogs, occasional deer with crop damage permits.

Is anyone having problems with piercing primers with an AE?
How many reloads are you getting with brass? Heard 4 to over 8
Barrel life? Heard anywhere from 2k to 4k

Who is the best to get a barrel done up from?

Thanks for any help...

I realize dies are going to be a little higher, brass seems to be close in price. Lapua seems to like several loads and kinds of powder. I have alot of varget so that's another plus for me.

I shoot and load for the 6.5L and love it. It is incredibly easy to load for and usually get 8-10 reloads from lapua brass. Because it uses small rifle primers you have more meat around the pockets which in most cases leads to longer brass life. I full size my cases with a standard Forester die ($40). You will most likely need to bush the boltface and have a smaller firing pin installed-this is meant to prevent crushing the primers.

I run both the 123 scenars and the 130 Bergers at around 2900 fps with a pretty tame load. I use RE15 and 4350 with great success and accuracy.

My rifle is built off a Surgeon 591 repeater so I can't speak to rebarreling your AI. I know GAP will do this no problem.

I have a couple of 6.5x47's and a creedmoor.
Very happy with both calibers.
I shoot one of the 47's for 1k f-class and could not ask for a more accurate rifle.
I've also let a friend shoot my Creedmoor at the last 1k f-class match and it also shot very well.

As far as reloading, the 3 47's I load for were easier to find a low es/sd sub 1/2moa load for over the creedmoor. Might just be the barrel I have on the creed, I think it has something to do with the small rifle primer.
I shoot 139/140's in all of them and get 2800fps and up in all of them, 22 to 31" barrels.

Of the 3(47/260/creed) I don't think you can go wrong with any of them.
With the same bullet/same barrel length, the 260 "should" be the fastest, then the Creed then the 47, but not by much.
Lapua makes 260rem brass also.
I'm annealing every firing and have about 8 firings on my brass so far and have not lost a piece yet. Now primer pockets are getting easier to seat it seems, but not loose yet.

From the studying I did before I built/bought, the 6.5 bullets, no matter the caliber, seem to shoot best between 2800 and 2950fps, when you get to 3k they seem to open up for most folks.

As far as builders, I'll leave that to other posters.

my $.02

Thanks for all the helpful info fellows. I would like to hear from guys who are running this caliber in an AI... Did you bush the bolt and install smaller firing pin. I have been told as long as I don't push it too hard I want have any trouble but I want to have an edge with this round and not just average.

I would like to know this as well. My next bolt gun will be a AI AE MKIII and I'm leaning towards 6.5 x 47.
