So I got this rig together in like February then tore a ligament in my thumb on my shooting hand and had not been able to get to the range till this weekend. I was still wearing a brace but I couldnt wait any longer. So Im shooting a 6.5x284. barrel by john pierce at pierce engineering. Mcree folding stock with an atlas bipod. Nightforce 5.5x22 in nightforce rings. I was shooting both 140gr SMK and 140gr Berger VLD's over 52gr H4831sc and CCI 200 primers in lapua brass. Unfortunately i didnt check my chrono before i left and the battery was dead when i arrived. Shooting was at 100yds as i was testing and sighting. i did put a few rounds down range on steel 500yds was no sweat at the round really seemed to handle the 10 mph gusts no problem.
100 yd groups seem promissing. some horizontal movement. I seemed to have some issues gettin a solid NPOA. Im sure my big ass wrist brace didnt help but i think im going to have to play with the sizing on the stock.

Re: 6.5x284 mcree range report finally

Finding the right fit on any rifle is crucial. On the McRee stocks it can be a little tedious since you have to literally un-bolt pieces and then bolt them back together to change settings... but once you find the sweet spot, it ain't gonna go any where if you put a lil' dab o' loc-tite on them bolts and snug 'em up tight...

Looking at those targets I see some breathing issues as well.
Nice rifle, though.
If John chambered it you just know it's a tackdriver!

Graham, could you elaborate more on what you might be seeing. I definitly think I'm having a NPOA issue. Where into the string I'm finding myself repositioning a little. I'm seeing a lot of 3 shot and two shot groupings within my 5 shot group. I know this damn brace I'm wearing is screwing with me especially with that thick grip.

Re: 6.5x284 mcree range report finally

The split groups could be from a change in cheek weld due to re-positioning your head between shots.

The vertical could be breathing: make sure to break the shot at the bottom of the breathing cycle and not while you are still exhaling.
