The only blue part of VA :(
just started looking into the 6.8 to use as a deer gun. i have a gaspiston 223 and love not having to clean out the filth after shooting.

who makes a good 6.8 both in DI and piston that wont set me back too much (i assume at some point one could add a piston conversion inline)

thanks

edited: cause i cant justify the additional cost for a piston in a hunting upper.

Re: piston 6.8 that wont break the bank?

There are a host of companies now offering 6.8 upper/rifles. Just be sure to get what is considered the best spec.s for optimum performance. You would want 6.8spcII chamber with a minimum of 1-11 twist barrel that sports M4 feed ramps. I built a WOA that runs like a champ, have a Bison Armory that is as good if not better. The beauty is most major companies are jumping on board which is a good thing for this round.

Noveske...need I say more
Wilson...fairly new to the 6.8 game but offers some nice uppers
Bison Armory, small co. that makes some very accurate uppers
AR Performance, offers several different top of chart options
Armalite
CMMG...may offer a piston
Stag,no m4 ramps
RRA,were not up to the lastest spec's but this may have changed

And too many others to list, just check the spec's as some are still producing with 1-10 twist barrels sporting the old regular SPC chamber.

eta; this round flat out kills things dead in their tracks.

Re: piston 6.8 that wont break the bank?

i have found an upper deal from AR Performance, looks like $579 for an upper w/YHM quad rail... thats not too pricey.

Bison is $590 for same setup

both are complete ready to pin to a lower. pricing being about equal does one get the "edge" for accuracy/reliability?

i think im gonna rule out piston upper as a requirement. got too many other things to buy to be shelling out $1400 on another upper.

hrm. the more i make the 2 options closer to eachother (i missed some options the first time around on the Bison) the better the AR Performance upper looks.

anyone have one? accuracy out of their "hunter" series?

Skaer,

A buddy of mine picked-up a 6.8 upper from AR Performance and he's pretty happy with it. What I did notice was how availble they were when he was trying to figure-out what to get. I would give them a call, or send them an email, and tell them what you had in mind. They seemed to be pretty good people to deal with.
