Guys could use alittle advise, I'm shooting a 6xc with a 26" barrel and 1-8 twist. Looking for a heavy bullet to use on coyotes thats not overly destructive on hides. Don't mind an exit but would like to keep it about the size of a 50 cent pc. or smaller. I have used the Barnes 80 TTSX and works great but would like to find something with a better BC. So far have tried the Berger 105 Hybrids but its not a fur bullet. Large exits have been the norm but they don't go far. Anyone have a bullet thats been working consistant for them?
Max. distance around 600.

Thanks

Brent

I would try SMK's all the coyotes I've shot with them just poke a little hole with a 308. I don't think I've ever shot a fox with a SMK, so i can comment there I know what you mean about the 105 hybrid being " not a fur bullet"

Brent Parker, the border stompin coyote killer of the south! Good to see ya ;)

This thread needs some pictures of the non-fur friendly kills you've made.

Im not sure what to tell ya as far as bullets that dont make holes, I've shot A maxs, smk's, bergers, and Match Burners. All of em seem to make pretty good holes in small animals. Their frame isnt big enough to contain the energy.
I assume you havent tried the 105 Match Burner yet, but I'd imagine it'll do the same.

Maybe you could swage the tip closed and hope for fmj performance. Sorry I dont have any better ideas :/

Personally I would use a Berger VLD Target like their 105 and aim for a spot with no bone. Every time I've shot a critter with one it leaves a pencil hole one both sides, as long as you don't put it in the front quarter, you should be good to go.

Yellow box 115gr Berger VLD's will expand less than any other Berger bullet in 6MM. Hit bone and you'll have a lot of damage regardless of the flavor..Another bullet to shoot fur coyotes with is the Lapua 105gr. scenar. A little lower BC than the 115's and 105 Hybrid, but a very accurate, and deadly bullet.

I've been hunting and shooting all my coyotes the past couple years with 105gr Hybrids at 3100fps in two different GAP 6 Creeds with great results....but I'm in the predator control business, not the fur business. IMO, dead with a large hole trumps a "runner", hit through the ribcage that goes 300 yards into the brush, or bottom of the a deep coulee before running out of gas.

Good luck! The XC is great cartridge. I killed over 500 coyotes with mine before re-tooling to the 6 Creedmoor.

Pat I was hoping you would see this and reply. I agree when just killing coyotes the 105 Hybrid is hard to beat. I only get to get paid to kill coyote 3 months out of the year and the Bergers have worked great. From Nov. To Feb. I wouldn't mind skinning a few. The Bergers not gonna work. I'll order a box of Scenars and some 107 smk and see what shoots best and try them .
CB how Ya doing bud. You get back down this way give me a call and we will get together again. Good to see you. I'll try to get a few pics. posted.

Alright here you go:

and the last picture is of my hunting partner. She is 10 here. She went into semi-retirement and not happy about it. Thought I'd finish it off with a decent picture.

I use the 58g Vmax in my 243wssm loaded down to 3300 fps. 600 yds would be no problem. Out of the 40 or so coyotes I shot last season I only had 2 blowouts. 1 was a pup, and the other was a very thin mangy female and both were broadside shots. I also use the 75g Vmax which would take you out to 1000 but inside 200 can get blowouts.
