The more <$600, the better...
I read a lot here and there and everywhere more than I post, but I am still kinda clueless as to the choice of my very first scope. I could name brand after brand after brand and model... that others swear by. Yes a USO or NF or Zeiss Hendsoldt or S&B whatever it is, is probably, THE SHIT.
I cannot afford "the shit", ok?
In reality, I will paper punch more than anything, along with the occasional coyote or varmint or feral critter. Most shots will be well under 100 yards, and likely never more than 200 yards, unless I drive a ways for fun. As a photographer, I get the respect for NIKON glass. As a realist, I understand why 35/34/30 mm would be better that 25.4mm. Online I have looked at the Millets, Muellers, Super Snipers, Bushnells, Vortex vipers, what have yous and was gonna look at the Falcons, but their website is down, and that is never a good sign, Sightrons, Nikons, etc. Don't want a 3 foot long telescope sitting atop the rifle, prefer something repeatable and reliable with turns, at least semi mildot, milmil, with what ya'll might term "decent glass", at least 30mm, and with tactical knobs.
The rifle is a TC Icon PH in .308, guaranteed sub moa. (Edited to say that it has the machined in weaver/picitinny, with a gap over the chamber, so can't move scope rings forward to compensate for too much hanging over the rear.) Do not wish to shortchange it, but it is not a custom Mchotrod either. Like the 4-14 idea, and best I can tell, the Millett TRS-1 4-16x50 Tactical 30mm may be my best choice @ the $300 mark. Given that this will have to double as a southeastern Appalachian mountain hunter as well as ranger, I don't think a fixed 10 power scope is best for me.
Thoughts or input for the budgetnoobie?
Thanks in advance.
