So, I've been watching to PX and I've talked to @Frank Green about my next 6cm barrel being a BB steel CF barrel. With 6cm, I really don't need the weight of steel and I'd like to see how I like the gun being a little lighter and keep 24" barrel length (I always run suppressed )

I'm a little unsure about it though. Anyone have any thoughts on this? The CF is pretty pricey for a burner like a 6cm but with the BB steel (though I don't know how many rounds I will get out of my current steel BB barrel yet yet), it makes the total price a lot easier to take if you can get a good number of rounds out of it. My major concerns or questions are as follows, but I'd be happy to get any input from those that have one.

Does it shoot as well as steel? My current BB steel one is ridiculously good, I'd hate to lose even a little.

How does it do on a longer ish string of shots? Any issues there?

    Cool down time any issues?

I have other CF barrels and have not had any issues, which is why I am strongly considering it for 6cm, but I thought I'd run it by you guys to make myself feel better. Going to need to order from frank soon so I don't find myself without a good barrel later on.

It depends on what you use the rifle for. I wouldn't put a carbon barrel on a 6CM if I was going to shoot PRS matchs with it, for more reasons than one. I also probably wouldn't use one that I planed on shooting a ton of rounds with or just was going to bang steel with all day. However, at the end of the day, it is your money and you should spend it on whatever you want. Life is short and you can't take the money with you when you die.

I'm in a similar situation, but I'm building a handy/hunting rifle in 6GT not 6CM. For me, the 6GT will provide enough velocity for my purposes without being an $800 barrel burner. The carbon barrel combined with other lightweight parts will make for a really light weight and pleasant to shoot rifle that I won't mind carrying around and hiking with. I doubt the rifle will be shot a ton, and expect the barrel to last years. (3k+ rounds in my PRS barrels)

I don't expect a carbon barrel from a well known manufacturer to be any more or less accurate or perform significantly better or worse than the manufacturers stainless barrels. I also doubt Bartlien would sell you a barrel they weren't 100% confident in. Every barrel I have had from them has been phenomenal. There's a reason there's a waiting list.

Thanks for your input. I have several Bartlein barrels and one of them is a CF one but I'm struggling deciding on which way to go for my 6cm. It's so soft shooting already I figured I could get away with a CF barrel and it still shoot the same for me, but wanted to hear some others input to help me finalize my decision. It's definitely a comp rifle but I don't shoot strictly prs with it. I have much more experience with the proof CF barrels and Bartlein steel barrels. The proof barrels just aren't quite what the steel barrels are for me anyway. Maybe it's the flex in the proof with a big Ole can hanging off of it or something or maybe just the difference in a prefit and a barrel that's spun up for me.

I know any Bartlein is going to be great but the current one I have is just unbelievable. I'd hate to lose that by going to a CF barrel, but it would be nice to lighten that rifle a little bit if I could do it without penalty. I hope this makes some kind of sense....

I'd like to have a thicc Bartlein MODBB carbon in .223. something like a 26" M24 contour.

No desire in a 6 Creed lol. That said I did buy a Carbon Six 22 Creedmoor barrel. But it was like $600 or something and I'm probably going to shoot 50rds a year out of it.
Yeah, I may just be being stupid and should just call Greg and get another ModBB 24" and let him flute it or something. He turned my current one down a little but I don't remember the exact size, it was basically "as small as you can while being sure it will still shoot " and it worked out so perfectly, I mat be asking for troubke by doing anything but ordering another one. That's kind of why I wanted some input here. You don't see many 6cm CF barrels and there's a good reason for that I guess.

I had just about talked myself out of it.... so what kind if rifle do you have that on? Thanks for the input

The CF barrels are for the cool guy hunting crowd....LOL!

Any hot 6mm is going to be a barrel burner for the most part.

If you want to save weight and save some $$$$ drop the contour size and skip the carbon fiber.

    Later, Frank
    Bartlein Barrels
That's probably excellent advice. I only worried about it getting hot and walking on longer strings if I dropped the contour size? That's pretty much what I went back and forth with when I got the first barrel with Greg and ended up with "small as you can while being sure it will still shoot"

I appreciate all the input fellas. I think I'm going to just go with a BB steel one with a Rem Varmint contour and call it a day. I have been hoping to see one in the px but the BB steel ones just don't come around very often and with a 6 month lead time, if I wait any longer, I could find myself without a barrel to shoot when I want to so.... my current rifle isn't too heavy but it's noticeable compared to the exact same chassis and scope but with a 6.5cm Carbon Fiber Barrel on it. Not a huge deal either way though. Thanks again fellas
