The Great Beyond
Working on my new 6GT build and discovered a few issues I could use some advice on:

I think AT-X magazines will not work (technically I guess they are different than AW) in an MDT Chassis. Not a Huge issue, I only have the 1.

I also notice AICS mags are a pretty tight fit, and hard to get seated quickly and reliably (yes moar practice!)

AICS Mags give me problems with a fully loaded mag (10 rounds). The first two rounds will 'bind' or 'nosedive' aka they gett stuck in the mag and there appears to be too much tension (guessing here) to allow it to nose up into the chamber. After those first 2, everything is golden. I was doing load testing but my plan for the PRS matches is to just use a 12 round mag or maybe load 8 (I rarely get to 10 being old and slow). These are will seasoned mags I used with 308/6.5 and no issue.

Any advice would be welcome.

This will sound a bit "out there" but it made a difference for me.

Try using a mag loader like MDT's. I got one because my arthritic hands also had difficulty cramming the last two rounds into 10- or 12-round MDT magazines. And, like you, I would have occasional issues with the first one or two rounds binding.

For whatever reason, inserting the cartridges with the mag loader was not only easier but seemed to reduce binding issues. I'm much more confident in using fully-loaded 6.5CM or 6BR magazines in matches now.

Your experience may vary in that regard, but loading rounds into mags is definitely easier....

AT-X mags are a little different than regular AW's and require more than just the correct chassis to work. If I remember correctly, they can be modified to work, but it heavily depends on the action.

The mags in question, are the AI branded single feed mags? Whenever I get new mags, I polish and tweak the lips until they feed smoothly.

What's your setup? Sometimes it helps to know what components are being used.

My AT-X wouldn't feed the 6GT reliably either. So far, the Gray Ops mag has been a lot better working for me.

MDT Elite + Impact Short Action.

AT-X mag will not insert (Which I think we established is not exactly an AW mag--I use it in my AI a lot as its super easy to load, and well, nice and short!) I think its the lip on the front of the mag that causes issues. Like I said, I only have the one--its just sort of my "lucky mag"

Mags that "work" are MDT AICS (metal and polymer). It was a metal one jamming (Did not try polymer) the first two rounds when fully loaded. The round appears to get stuck between the bolt and have the bullet jammed into the binder plate (thus "nose down" or "nose dive"). After I strip off two round (so load 8), works smooth.

I was doing load development, so I really only got a chance to test the one AICS mag fully loaded. Most times I just have 5 (no issues) loaded. I got lazy for the last batches and loaded 10. Multiple FTF on fully loaded. I just single shot until it would feed. Verified it again with some bonus rounds. to make sure it wasn't a fluke.

If anyone knows how to make mag insertion easier, I'm all ears. Its functional but damn is it tight compared to the AI and my KRGs. I know there is some tweaking possibly involved so I am not dogging MDT. Just trying to learn and adjust. Thing is a damn hammer otherwise though.

Is inserting the mag difficult when it’s empty too? Is it tough all the way or just at the top clicking in that’s difficult?

I like to knock the base plate off to empty the feeder out and get some sand paper and work on the inside of the feed lips to get ride of the shaper edge and take some bite out of em.
Then I’ll measure the widths for a baseline you can return to, bend the lips. Likely the front needs to be flared out a smidge.
