I am in the market for a new quick detach suppressor for my 30 cal rifles. Has anyone had experience using a .338 suppressor with a .308 cal rifle. I figured I could kill as many birds with one stone as possible. Looking at the Surefire FA338SS. I do not have a .338 yet but I am thinking of a bigger future. If not kosher for a .338can on a 308 does anyone have a FA762K or FA762SS and recommend it?

I think Nomad on here or ROB1 runs a 338 surefire on their 762 guns. The Marines run the 762SS on their M40A5's and SOCOM just picked the FA762K for the MK13.

Alot of pepole do this same thing with there 223 rifles and putting a 308 can on them. I've used the surefire 338 on a 308 and it does a very good job at suppressing but the only current draw back to the surefire 338 is they don't make a 5/8x24 adaptor, that happens to be what most 308 guns are threaded for. SO if your guns are not threaded yet then you'll be fine and just have them threaded 3/4x24. If they are threaded then you'll have to get cut them off and rethreaded.

I think a 338 will always sound better on a 308 because of the increased internal volume. The question is, do you want a giant overweight 338 can on your 308 rig? Granted you can get close to 20oz with some Ti 338 cans, but theyre still LONG. Get a 7.62, this wont be your last NFA purchase...

I actually heard a comparison of the two just the other day. Same rifle, same rounds, same suppressor manufacturer, (AWC). The 7.62 was quiet, both with h.v. rounds and s.s. rounds. However, the .338 was night and day difference in sound. Especially with the s.s. rounds. I have heard louder .177 pellet guns louder than what the .338 suppressor was. It was jaw dropping how much difference there was. If you're just going to be using it in a leisure type setting, I would go .338. But like Jonaddis84 said, there is a drawback of weight and length with the .338 can vs. the 7.62 can.

So a .338 can on a .308 is much quiter than using a .308 can? I want a 30P-1 pretty bad but wanted the 338P-1 version first until I saw the price difference. I want to add a .338 rifle but it will be a while, figured the 30P-1 can last me until then.

Go 338BA if you go 338. You will want 3/4 or similar diameter threads for a 338 rifle which will be too large for a 30cal.
It is a HUGE can at 1.8x10.4", but its crazy lightweight for the size. Weighed mine when it came in at 23.5oz no brake, 27oz with brake. The majority of the brake weight is in the first inch of it, so it keeps the balance towards the rear nicely. Hell, my first 308 can was 32oz!
Also, it is QUIET! Havent shot it on a 308 yet, but I can tell you that side by side it is tough to tell the difference between an 18" 308 with 30P-1 and the 27" 338LM with 338BA.

i was getting ready to order a 308 myself and was wondering about 223 with a 308 can? But i have a 338 norma mag so i think ill get the 338B and go from there. I have 2 308s to thread so i guess i should go 3/4-28 correct?

I've run the TBAC 338 can on my DTA in both 308 and 338 for about 8 months.
Works great. Wouldn't have it any other way.
Just be aware that depending on the setup the can may look absolutely massive...

I can barely see the can with the TAB cover on at the bottom of the scope when on 5x, and thats the only magnification I notice it at. Not sure if thats what you meant or not?

I saw a test where a .338LM suppressor tested really well against .308 suppressors when fired on a .338LM
The downside would be weight and length.

I have a Ti SAS QD 338 can that I use on my DTA in 338 LM, 308, and 6.5 CM. I also use it on a 9" 300 AAC BLK.
As far as sound goes, I have never shot with a can that sounded quieter, and have shot with a lot that have sounded much louder. This goes for all 4 calibers.
For accuracy, it actually increases accuracy on the 338 by about .15 MOA. The 308, both supersonic and subsonic, and 300 AAC the can has no effect on accuracy. With the 6.5 it seems to spread it out a bit. I'm talking about .1 MOA. However, friends of mine have cans of different sizes and manufactures, and that seems to be a trend with the 6.5 CM with a suppressor. Dunno why.
For the muzzle break itself, the QD is good, but not great. My brother in law owns the thread over muzzle break version for a 30 cal can. That break is as good of a muzzle break as I have ever shot with can attachment or not. If I were to do it over again it would be a thread over muzzle break.
For price, there is no comparison. SAS Titanium cans rule.
