In an AR you should avoid the commie ammo with a lacquer coating, as the lacquer becomes liquid during firing and builds up on the inside of the chamber. But recent production 7.62x39 Russian commercial ammo (Wolf, etc.) does not have a lacquer coating.
Also, because commie ammo tends to run a bit dirty, make sure to keep your AR well lubed. Squirt a bit in every couple hundred rounds to be sure the gun stays lubed during your whole shooting session. </div></div>
I've got a pre-ban Colt in 7.62x39 and the only issues I've had are finding good 7.62x39 mags with more than a 10 round capacity. I've recently been using C-products mags and they seems to be good after 2-3k rounds through them. The straight 10 round mags work fine for me.
As to ammo, I've put thousands of lacquered and non-lacquered through it and as long as you don't mix then in the same range session you should be fine. There are a couple of articles on it out there and the issue seems to be the lacquer heating up and sticking to the non-coated rounds.
Definitely agree on the lube. I work mine pretty hard and it's been dropped, tossed, submerged, etc and it just works as long the bolt and carrier are lubed. I definitely don't have to lube every hundred rounds. I put about 800 through it one weekend during a training class without any malfs.
