Any one running this round through an AR platform? If so, any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

Also, any issues with cheap com block steel cased ammo on durability vs AR parts/systems...etc

Looking for a more common platform to my supplies, and yield better accuracy than the AK. if possible.

Re: 7.62x39 in an AR15 platform ?

Got an Armalite mid-length 16" barreled upper. It is a freaking hammer. It does not run with Hotshot ammo (50% no fire/very light primer strike) but is running Yugo just fine. The Hotshot has a deeper seated primer. I think there are some mods to the BCG/FP you can do to address the firing pin travel.

I bought mags directly from C Products. Same mag as Armalite sells at half the price. You can order on their web site.

Go for it - just plan on having to tweak the BCG a bit. Post back here links to the mods if you find them. Thanks.

Re: 7.62x39 in an AR15 platform ?

I picked up a basic upper from arperformance, they make their own bolt for the 7.62x39 that won't break as easy as some others are reported to. As well it uses standard ar15 extractor and firing pin.

It would FTFire about 3 out of 30 rounds of eastern bloc(wolf). I put a heavy hammer spring in and that fixed the problem, haven't seen an FTfire since.

Accuracy is tolerable, definetly better than my AK. Haven't done any groups yet though.

for mags I have just been using the cproducts mags.

Re: 7.62x39 in an AR15 platform ?

In the old days there were stories of Colt A15s in 7.62x39 choking a bit. Apparently Armalite has solved the problem (?).

In an AR you should avoid the commie ammo with a lacquer coating, as the lacquer becomes liquid during firing and builds up on the inside of the chamber. But recent production 7.62x39 Russian commercial ammo (Wolf, etc.) does not have a lacquer coating.

Also, because commie ammo tends to run a bit dirty, make sure to keep your AR well lubed. Squirt a bit in every couple hundred rounds to be sure the gun stays lubed during your whole shooting session.

Good info - appreciate the continued .02c

Have worked with Mr. Beene of AR15Perf on my 6.8spc from 08.......good stuff and a great guy. will chat with him again. His extreme bolt/bcg for 762x39 sounds like the ticket.....

Thanks y'all

My kid has a Oly X39 16" upper on a Mega lower, using CP mags no issues in over 3K rds of mixed brands.Even has a few of the older modified Colt mags where they were cut/flared/welded that work ok.
Will say the fireball from the milsurp ammo is fascinating to watch at night, makes for some good photo ops.

I've got a pre-ban Colt in 7.62x39 and the only issues I've had are finding good 7.62x39 mags with more than a 10 round capacity. I've recently been using C-products mags and they seems to be good after 2-3k rounds through them. The straight 10 round mags work fine for me.

As to ammo, I've put thousands of lacquered and non-lacquered through it and as long as you don't mix then in the same range session you should be fine. There are a couple of articles on it out there and the issue seems to be the lacquer heating up and sticking to the non-coated rounds.

Definitely agree on the lube. I work mine pretty hard and it's been dropped, tossed, submerged, etc and it just works as long the bolt and carrier are lubed. I definitely don't have to lube every hundred rounds. I put about 800 through it one weekend during a training class without any malfs.

Re: 7.62x39 in an AR15 platform ?

What about all the Poly coated com bloc ammo?

Lacquer the biggest issue or is poly coated stuff an issue......

I am assuming that if you only shoot the lacq., what is the best way to clean it all out without gunkin up the DI/Tube.....

I appreciate the info.

Re: 7.62x39 in an AR15 platform ?

Only issues I have seen has been Mags but that seems to be in the past. I was in the market for a while but I have a mini 30 that runs so good I spent my efforts else where. I would get one if it fell in my lap just because. I have taken many deer with my mini 30 using Starline brass, 125 gr SPH and H335 right out of the LEE book. M.O.A. out to 200 which is as far as I would push this round.
