I'm new to the site and here to learn about other peoples experience with this gun in 223. So far all I've done is a 20 shot, 1 shot and clean process. I did this with an "el cheapo" scope and have yet to get my desired scope. During the break-in process I had a problem with the extractor crushing a small place on the case rim. I took the rifle over to Mr. Dave Tooley where he worked his magic and I was able to finish up the break-in process flawlessly. Now that you know the background info, share any opinions, advice, comments, or anything you want. Thanks for looking.

i want you to be sure to post back your results as i'm very curious in your findings. it seems like every time i get close to saving the money for the scope i want, something else comes up.

I was wonder how this rifle and twist would work with 75-gr? I just bought a box of 77-gr Black Hills red box to try. Just put a scope on my rifle , and so far have only shot prvi 69-gr, and can't comment on accuracy since I'm still dialing it in.

How are the 75-gr bullets at longer ranges with the 5R i.e. 500+-yards?

Re: 700 5r 223

I am sure you are goin to enjoy your rifle. I am getting my first 223 bolt gun in the next couple of weeks. It will be different than most posted though. It is a cz 527 with the full manllicher stock, 1-12 twist with detachable magazine and great open sights. Cannot wait to see all that walnut.

Re: 700 5r 223

he took a dremel and took a small amount of material off the claw and also clipped off some of the spring for the ejection plunger(sorry i don't know the technical terms). he also took a punch to the sharp corners of the locking lugs and smoothed it up. it made all the difference in the world!

i've aquired a old sako forester in 22-250 and a t/c prohunter pistol in 223 in the past week so the 5r gets pushed back yet again! i've been toying with the idea of just parting with it, but i'm not sure what it would be worth with only 20 rounds down the tube and the above mentioned repairs/improvement. any ideas?

Re: 700 5r 223

Ok, I'm done sighting it in / breaking it in, and here's what my 5R 223 is doing:

Prvi 69-gr Match - 3" group. Are you kidding me, my LMT with 16" barrel shot a group just over 1" with this stuff last week. I guess the 5R just doesn't like it, but then again, the barrel was fresh from break-in and cleaning and hadn't been fowled yet.

Black Hills Red Box 77-gr Match - best group 0.33", all the other groups under half and inch. Wahoo, got a good one here!
FYI - I measure my groups from center to center. I had to mention this since some do it from outside edge to outside edge.

Can't wait to see what she does at 500-yards this coming Friday.
