I am doing some load development for my new SPS .308, and was wondering if there are any suggestions for a load that I am not already trying. My loads I have done so far are:

150gr Matchking
43gr IMR 4895
43gr Varget

168gr Matchking
43gr IMR 4895
43gr Varget
43.3gr both powders
43.5gr both powders

Does anyone have any other suggestions for loads, or am I on the right track?

Thanks

Re: 700 SPS Varmint Load Advice Please

I think you're light on Varget for your 150 MK load. I did not do extensive load testing with that bullet, but if I recall, I had 46gr Varget shooting approx 2950fps, and it was grouping easily half MOA at 200 out of my SPS Varmint. I loss interest in that bullet for some reason.

I switched to Scenars:
46gr Varget
2.80"
210M
Rem Brass
2850fps

Shoots excellent out of the SPS Varmint and around half MOA out of my Finnlight 308!!!

Re: 700 SPS Varmint Load Advice Please

Explore 155 scenars at 2.825oal with varget between 46g-46.5g (2850 fps) also 175smk same oal with varget at 44g-44.5, (2650 fps) good accuracy nodes were found there in my 26” varmint barrel. If you wish to use 168smk’s there is a node w/ varget around 43.5g but a better one around 45.5g (near 2700fps), I used Winchester and Hornady match brass on the above.

45.0 gr of varget with 168gr smk, and remington brass at 2.805 should be around 2750fps. works well with nosler brass too.

Re: 700 SPS Varmint Load Advice Please

I use the following on my 700P which is same same as the SPS Varmint 26" 1:12 twist 0.82 Barrel

Lapua Brass
Federal 210M primers
Varget (AR2208)
155 Lapua Scenar - 46.3 grains
175 Sierra Match King - 45.1 grains

Re: 700 SPS Varmint Load Advice Please

I have had good luck pushing the 168's over Accurate 2520. As others have said, if you plan to go to 1000 yds, you really have to go to the 175 class bullets. I do most of my shooting with the 168's at 600 and under.
