Hello all, I've heard about a lot of people hating on the Remington 700 vtr for accuracy issues, muzzle brake inefficiencies, etc. I have a vtr in 308 win and have had none of these issues. In fact I printed a 3-shot 0.38" (measured it wrong the first time so that's why the photo says 1/4") grouping at ~200yds when I had an H-S precision police stock on in and a 5-shot 0.63" grouping at 100yds when I finally put an MDT TAC21 chassis on it (love it btw). I've seen a whole bunch of videos and have had some friends that complain about accuracy issues, more often with the 223 version. From what I gathered from a buddy of mine was that the vortex created inside the muzzle brake on the 223 version threw the round off. He cut the brake off and started printing 1/4" 3-shot groups at best. Also, the complaints with the 308 version that I found were that people could not print anything under 1-3" at 100yds and that the barrels were very sensitive to specific ammo. Meaning they had to sift through boxes of ammo until they could print a 1" grouping and then had to stick to that ammo. Maybe I live in an alternate universe but my vtr eats just about any ammo very well. I printed the aforementioned 3-shot group with 150gr Remington core-lokt factory ammo and the 5-shot with 168gr outback SMKs. The thing loves either very light and fast rounds or heavy slow stuff. Oddly enough 180gr core-lokt print ~1.5" groups but my 150 core-lokt, 168 SMKs, and 175 SMKs are award winners for this rifle. 0.5" 5-shot groups at best. 180gr Winchester supreme Xs are awesome too. The only thing I can't shoot is the run of the mill core-lokt 180s, go figure right? With all this said I would like to know whether anyone thinks I have a "hummer" or a perfectly harmonic barrel. I am very new to this concept so I would appreciate input from those experienced is said science. It's the only thing I can come up with for this rifle's great performance compared to so many other reviews. Or maybe I just got a good one and it is working the way it was meant? Here's pics of my groups just so you know I'm not blowing smoke.
