Found the rifle and have placed an order for the Viper PST 4-16x50 First Focal in MOA...now have $1,500 remaining for my project and wondering "what would you do"...

Looking to change the stock, trigger and bottom metal as well as add some legs to it based on the reading here so wanted to get your thoughts on these/other items etc...possible to stay within budget?

Shoot the rifle first to see how it performs.

If it performs fine, no upgrades until you can determine what you "need", and not just "want".

Spend some of the remaining budget on good reloading equipment and components, if you don't have it already.

    Have fun.

You can get yourself a nice Atlas bipod...but like SoCalPete sez: shoot it first and think about quality reloading stuff. My first 20 rounds out of a 700SS using virgin brass and my starter load were shot into 4 groups of less than .75 MOA. I haven't even played with different powder weights or seating depths.

First thing I would do is get ride of the X-Crap trigger the 5R comes with. Check out the Timney #510 trigger, for a little over $100 it will be the best upgrade you can do to the rifle.

I'm assuming since you have a scope coming that you have a base and rings as well. If not get a 20moa base and some badger or Seekins rings.

    If it were me:
    Tab Gear Sling
    Seekins Sling Rail System
    Atlas bipod
SOTECH or Eagle Cheek rest/stock pack
    Training Ammo

Down the road, I would maybe look at reloading, a range finder, a kestrel, etc.

Scope is coming in June as I am understanding which kinda sucks but will deal with it...may buy a "temporary" scope for now which I could xfer off the weapon when it finally ships...

Safe to assume I can use these Badger or Seekins rings with both scopes IF the right "temp scope" is selected?
