Re: 75g vmax molly for deer
75 gr. VMAX should do ok for Whitetail. I took a doe last season with a 55 gr. Blitzking.
However, I would recommend staying away from Moly bullets. I have tested them extensively, and the moly build-up in the barrel can promote rusting. I know that there are several people who will call me a 'fool' for saying this, but I almost ruined 2 rifles using them and I will never go back.
MoS2 better known as Molybdenum Disulfide actually traps moisture under it, and sandwiches it between the barrel metal and the film of MoS2 that is left behind when the bullet is fired. After several firings the MoS2 builds up to the point that you need a cleaning agent with ether, Montana Xtreme Copper Killer, or similar chemical to remove it from the barrel. All the while the atmospheric moisture is trapped under that film, and is promoting rust that will eat away at the metal like a cancer.
Moly was originally designed for machinery and the agricultural community. Moly was applied to grain bins and moving parts to give it a dry lubrication. Little did they know that they were actually promoting rust in the process.
Since then, someone, only God knows who, decided to apply it to bullets, and it has taken on without the true problems coming out. Ask any of the experts, and you will see that what I am talking about is true. That is, if they have really done their research. It's only design is to sell more bullets and more stuff.
After all ... why couldn't you use powdered graphite in it's place? That would be too easy.
