7mm-08 loads

Now that federal discontinue the premium nosler accubond 7mm-08 rounds I am having trouble finding a factory round that shoots well. Any help or hand loads ?

Nothing sexy but-

140gr Nosler ballistic tip or Accubond (same same) at 2.8 OAL, RL17, lapua brass and rem primers. 2900-2940fps (depending on the temperature)

120gr Barnes TTSX, with Varget, at 2.80 OAL, rem primer, lapua brass. Right around 3k fps.

Both with charges near the respective bullet manufacturer published max


Both are .5ish” in my 1-9 20” proof (I can’t remember freebore, but it’s nothing crazy)

I had a big game load with partitions, that was pretty impressive, but big game is a pain in the ass to work with and it was hell on my primer pockets.

I've also never even tried sourcing 708 brass. Running 308 brass through a 708 FL die works like a charm. One won't get into case neck "donuts" until they go 708AI using 708 brass that started as 308 brass. I went through this process and learned a lot through failure.

My favorite 708 data:
120 TTSX/120 Hammer Hunter
N135 40-41gr
Lapua 308 brass sized to 708
Fed 215M
2880-2900fps 18" AR10

Start reloading. That’s the easiest way to mix and match and test things, to achieve your desired result.

I did start reloading about a year ago and I have some other rifles shooting good but I want to build a light hunting set up with my 7mm-08. I have had a lot of success with my Howa 7mm-08.

I should also say, I got great luck with IMR3031 120gr in Lapua brass. 22" Kimber 84 Hunter. 3060fps

I have had good success with the Barnes TTSX 120 and RL15 and H4895 (both unobtainable). I’m now reworking with the two StaBall powders and the 120g HH and TTSX. These are in a Rem700, Rem660, Kimber Montana, Ruger American and Ruger Hawkeye.

I don’t really have one in mind outside of a good hunting bullet. And I don’t want to pay the nosler $75 for 50 bullets thing

My go to load is almost identical to Pharmsellers. 150 ELDX stiff load of big game and I use a magnum primer. My MV is right at 2800 out of a 26" 9tw. Accurate and deadly!

Some more Ramshot Big Game loads:
47 - 48 grains with a 140 ballistic tip/accubond
50 grains with a 120 ballistic tip or TTSX.

Imr 4350 under a 140 SGK and a federal match primer. Had to go 2.78 otherwise the bullet sticks in the lands.

Good whitetail and coyote load.
